"Sources" & "insiders" & people "close to the situation" have been busy speculating that Ben Affleck is once again thirsty for one of the many Jennifers in his life: Jennifer Garner. Which is awkward considering they divorced years ago and she currently has a boyfriend. But honestly there's quite a lot of lore to go over, so here's Jen's full dating history to study up on.
1998 to 2003: Scott Foley
Jen and Scott met on set of Felicity and immediately hit it off. They started dating and eventually got married in 2000—going on to divorce just three years later in 2003. Despite rumors to the contrary, Scott insisted "nobody else was involved" and added, “Jennifer became a huge celebrity. She became a huge star, and she deserved everything she got. There was no other relationship, there was no infidelity, nothing. People get divorced, you know? Through no one’s fault and everyone’s fault.”
Meanwhile, Jen referenced the divorce while talking about her split from Ben Affleck (coming up soon!) to Vanity Fair, saying “It’s one of the pains in my life that something I believe in so strongly I’ve completely failed at twice. You have to have two people to dance a marriage. My heart’s a little on the tender side right now, and it’s always easier to focus on the ways that you feel hurt, but I know that, with time and some perspective, I’ll have a clearer sense of where I let the system down, because there’s no way I get off in this.”
2003 to 2004: Michael Vartan
Anyone who's seen Alias knows how much chemistry Jennifer has with Michael Vartan, so it's no surprise that they hit it off in real life. Their relationship was short-lived and pretty casual, and they've stayed great friends. Jen even wished him Happy Birthday on Instagram a few years back (which naturally everyone read into).
2004 to 2015: Ben Affleck
Jen and Ben initially met while filming Daredevil, but she was with Scott Foley at the time and he was engaged to J.Lo. Still, though, the vibes were vibing.
They ended up reconnecting after their respective breakups, and got married in June 2005—just a couple months after Ben proposed. The pair went on to have three kids (Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel) but things took a turn in 2015 thanks to rumors that Ben was cheating with the nanny (for what it's worth, his rep called said rumors "complete garbage and full of lies").
Ben and Jen ended up splitting in June 2015, issuing a statement saying “After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce. We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time. This will be our only comment on this private, family matter. Thank you for understanding.”
So, what happened next? Ben got a massive phoenix tattoo on his back, for one. Meanwhile, Jen told Vanity Fair that the nanny had "nothing to do" with their decision to divorce, adding "It was a real marriage. It wasn’t for the cameras. And it was a huge priority for me to stay in it. And that did not work."
While they ended up officially divorcing in 2018, Ben and Jen have stayed super close. Like, to the point where the entire internet is convinced they're going to get back together thanks to some flirty pics during a paintball party, but we'll get to that in a moment.
2018 to Now: John Miller
Jen and John got together shortly after she and Ben finalized their divorce. Us Weekly broke the news with a source saying “They’ve been together six months — and it’s getting pretty serious." Another insider added that “Jen brings out the best in John, and he is the happiest he has probably ever been. It’s a loving, healthy relationship.”
The pair briefly split in 2020 when another source told Us Weekly "He was ready for marriage and she just couldn’t commit," but got back together in 2021 and have been going strong since.
That said, apparently John's had some issues with how close Ben and Jen have been lately. In January, a source told the Daily Mail that "John is trying to deal with Ben and Jen's relationship by mostly staying quiet, but it's very hard to do that." And as for those PDA-filled paintball playing pics, another source said "Does it bother John when he sees the two of them being touchy-feely? Sure. It would get to anyone, but this is nothing new."
