Il proliferare di piattaforme di streaming e progetti seriali può mandare in confusione anche il più accanito amante delle serie tv, il più aggiornato sulle ultime uscite e il più entusiasta tra i binge-watcher. Perché le uscite sui cataloghi internazionali e nostrani sono tante, le novità da attendere altrettante e i grandi ritorni sempre attesissimi. Le nomination degli Emmy, con la serata di premiazione che quest'anno si terrà il 15 settembre a Los Angeles, sono quindi un'ottima cartina al tornasole delle migliori proposte delle piattaforme, un sunto di cosa ha avuto successo e cosa no nell'anno televisivo appena trascorso. Con gli Emmy, dati i vincitori e i nominati delle scorse edizioni, questo è spesso anche sinonimo di qualità. Basta guardare quali sono i nominati più ricorrenti dell'edizione 2024 per rendersi conto di quali siano le serie più in hype del momento, proposte che magari sono rimaste nelle to do list in attesa di una visione che non si è mai concretizzata a favore di altre serie o rewatch. E se fosse questo il momento di guardarle?
E dunque, cosa guardiamo stasera?
A guidare la classifica dei più nominati agli Emmy 2024 c'è Shōgun con 25 nomination: la serie di FX (in Italia distribuita su Disney+) ha avuto ottime recensioni non solo per la trama ma anche per la ricostruzione dell'epoca in cui è ambientata, quella cioè del Giappone feudale. Piacerà a chi ama i drama storici, ma anche a chi non disdegna le rarefatte atmosfere asiatiche e la filosofia orientale. Seguono The Bear, che si è aggiudicata ben 23 nomination con la sua seconda stagione (il 14 agosto su Disney+ arriva la terza) e continua a piacere da pazzi a un pubblico stratificato di spettatori: il merito è forse di Jeremy Allen-White, che grazie allo show è diventato un sex symbol globale? Forse è arrivato il momento di guardarla per farsi un'idea da soli. C'è poi Only Murders in The Building, serie di Hulu (si vede sempre su Disney+) con Selena Gomez, che di candidature ne ha avute ben 21: è uno show che gioca sul filo sottile della dramedy mettendo in gioco black humour e il thriller e un cast sensazionale, perché oltre a Selena ci sono Meryl Streep, Martin Short e Steve Martin.
Impossibile che sia rimasta nei To Do, ma Baby Reindeer su Netflix, anche solo per capire perché ha sollevato un grande polverone mediatico, va assolutamente recuperata. Piacevolissima e adrenalinica - con un pizzico di romance "from enemies to lovers" che non guasta mai - anche Mr. e Mrs. Smith su Amazon Prime Video, remake riuscitissimo dell'omonimo film del 2005 con Brad Pitt e Angelina Jolie che infatti si è guadagnato 16 candidature. Chi ama i period drama stile Downton Abbey non può non guardare The Gilded Age (Sky) che per altro è stata creata dallo stesso autore, ovvero Julian Fellowes: è un delizioso tuffo nell'età dell'oro americana, un viaggio tra le differenze di classe tra la vecchia aristocrazia e la nuova nobiltà che piacerà a chi non ama gli eccessi di Bridgerton.
Da recuperare anche le meravigliose Ripley (Netflix), storia di un truffatore incredibilmente carismatico interpretato da Andrew Scott; Fellow Traveler (Prime Video) per cui i protagonisti Matt Bomer e Jonathan Bailey si sono presi entrambi una nomination; Feud: Capote vs. the Swans, la storia di una faida creata da Ryan Murphy e diretta da Gus Van Sant che gli amanti delle grandi storie americane adoreranno (è su Disney+); infine, The Morning Show (AppleTv), con Jennifer Aniston e Reese Witherspoon, uno dei più felici esperimenti televisivi degli ultimi anni: parla di MeToo e di violenza e politically correct in modo eccelso.
