Hi, hello, if you haven't heard, smart rings are legit eve-ry-where rn, and they're here to count your steps, track your sleep, and keep your stress in check—all while looking waaaay chicer than your smartwatch. (No shade to the Apple Watch that I wear every damn day, even to fancy events where my friends beg me to at least get a cuter watch band.) And while Oura is probs the best-known brand in the world of smart rings, it's not your only choice. FTR, the best Oura Ring alternatives aren't necessarily cheaper in price, but they can save you $$$ by avoiding a monthly subscription, and there may be a better choice for you based on what you're looking for.

First things first: What's so great about smart rings? In addition to being more discreet than smartwatches, smart rings also tend to be comfier to wear and fully waterproof (whereas smartwatches are usually just water-resistant). Ofc, just like smartwatches, smart rings usually come with a steep price tag. A word of caution: You're better off avoiding those "Oura Ring dupes" priced under $200, as tempting as they may be. Take the word of hundreds of tester reviews: budget smart rings are usually plagued by inaccurate data, poorly designed apps, and unreliably connectivity, so you're better off spending your coin on a ring from a reputable brand, mmkay?

To help you out, I did a deep dive into the best smart rings on the market to see how they stack up to the Oura Ring—and the results were surprising, tbh! Let's get into it, kicking things off with the OG (which Cosmo loves, btw).

Ring Gen3

Pros

  • Able to sync offline without an internet connection
  • Offers fertility tracking and pregnancy insights
  • Can be tracked via Bluetooth if lost

Cons

  • Subscription costs an additional $6/month
  • Certain finishes are more expensive than others
  • Auto activity detection isn't always accurate

Beloved by celebrities and gadget-obsessed girlies alike, the latest version of the Oura Ring is pretty tough to beat. This bb is able to measure biometrics such as temperature, heart rate, blood oxygen, sleep, and stress levels directly from your finger—and it even offers pregnancy and fertility insights through Natural Cycles! Other perks include its ability to sync offline and the "Find My Ring" feature, as well as the wide range of styles, sizes, and colors. Just note that—while the most basic model starts at $299—the price can go up $549 depending on the finish you choose (not to mention the $6 monthly subscription fee). • Material: Titanium
  • Colors: Silver, Black, Stealth, Brushed Titanium, Gold, or Rose Gold
  • Sizes: 6-13
  • Battery life: Up to 7 days
  • Compatibility: iOS and Android

Glowing Customer Review: "The Oura seems to be spot-on with my sleep, stress, and activity. It works very well with the Apple Health app and integrates seamlessly. The Oura App is also very well designed and functions perfectly. I have not been very careful with my ring—I‘ve dropped it twice on a hard tile floor and I also wear it while working with power tools and while doing light construction/carpentry/craft work—and it has held up exceptionally well."

RingConn Smart Ring

Smart Ring

Pros

  • Provides exceptional sleep tracking (including naps!)
  • Offers many more details related to stress than Oura
  • Comes with a wireless charging case

Cons

  • Has more of a matte sheen rather than a shiny, metallic finish
  • Can't determine what kind of workout you're doing
  • Can be slow to sync data

I've found that the best—and most similar—alternative to the Oura Ring is the RingConn Smart Ring, which monitors your heart rate, blood oxygen, and other vital signs 24/7, while also keeping tabs on your sleep, activity, and stress. It comes in three color options and an even wider range of sizes than Oura, and it includes a portable charging case for juicing up on the go. All RingConn Smart Rings will set you back $279 (though you can currently save $20 off!), though if you're willing to wait, you can also pre-order the RingConn Gen 2 for $299.

  • Material: Titanium
  • Colors: Pale Gold, Midnight Black, or Moonlit Silver
  • Sizes: 6-14
  • Battery life: Up to 7 days
  • Compatibility: iOS and Android

Glowing Customer Review: "I am thrilled with my new smart ring! This sleek device seamlessly tracks my activity, sleep, stress, and heart rate without the hassle of a subscription. The 7-day battery life means I rarely have to worry about charging it, and its waterproof design allows me to wear it all the time, even while swimming. It's also incredibly user-friendly and compatible with both iOS and Android."

RingConn Smart Ring vs. Oura Ring

ringconn smart ring
RingConn

Besides the obvious perks (the RingConn Smart Ring is a lil cheaper than the Oura Ring and doesn't come with a monthly subscription fee), RingConn has a few other benefits compared to Oura. The RingConn app offers many more details related to stress than the Daytime Stress feature on the Oura Ring, and many found the RingConn particularly accurate for sleep tracking (especially for naps taken throughout the day!). It also comes with a wireless charging case, which is v handy.

Where the RingConn falls short: It has more of a matte sheen rather than a shiny, metallic finish, so it doesn't look quite as ~luxe~ IMO, but that may not be a big deal for you. Also, while it can tell you are working out based on heart rate and oxygen saturation, it can't determine what kind of activity you're doing (i.e. running vs biking). Last thing: Some found the RingConn slow to sync data, depending on how often you open the app. You should also note that this is a first-gen product, so you may be better off waiting for the RingConn Gen 2 to roll out.

Amazfit Helio Ring

Helio Ring
Now 45% Off

Pros

  • Offers Amazfit smartwatch compatibility
  • Great for sleep tracking and recovery analysis
  • Currently on sale for $100 off!

Cons

  • Subscription is required to access some data reports
  • App isn't very intuitive (and heart rate data isn't alway accurate)
  • Ring size and color options are much more limited

If you're someone who primarily wants a smart ring for sleep metrics, the Amazfit Helio ring might be for you, friend. In addition to functioning as a great sleep tracker, this option is smartwatch compatible, which means you can sync it with an Amazfit smartwatch to get all your data in one place—and it's currently on sale for $200! As a first-gen product, it still has a *few* kinks to work out, but testers say it provides in-depth sleep monitoring and a daily readiness and recovery analysis for a pretty great price.

  • Material: Titanium alloy
  • Color: Titanium
  • Sizes: 8, 10, or 12
  • Battery life: Up to 4 days
  • Compatibility: iOS and Android

Glowing Customer Review: "I was really excited about this smart ring and couldn’t wait to try once I received it. After using it for few days, I am very satisfied with the overall experience. Even though there’s a lot of data, it is easy to read and understand. I can also choose to show or hide or prioritize the info I would like to see. The info is pretty accurate as well. I also like that the data is real-time."

Amazfit Helio Ring vs. Oura Ring

amazfit helio ring
Amazfit

The Amazfit Helio Ring is the same price as the most basic Oura Ring, but it's currently on sale for $100 off (and there is no monthly subscription fee!). The biggest benefit of the Helio Ring is that it syncs with Amazfit smartwatches, so you can have all your fitness data and sleep data in one place. Likewise, testers found that the Helio Ring accurately reported their sleep duration metrics and sleep heart rate variability.

Unfortunately, similar to Oura, Amazfit does require you to pay extra in order to access certain data and features, such as the Zepp Aura Premium app (which is $70 a year). The Zepp app also isn't the most intuitive and can be a lil tricky to read—and some testers have noticed inaccuracies with their heart rate data while wearing the Helio Ring. Finally, the Helio Ring is currently only offered in three size options and one color, so there aren't a ton of opportunities for customization.

best Oura Ring alternative for fitness

Ultrahuman Ring Air

Ring Air
Now 14% Off

Pros

  • Tracks several types of movement
  • Detects activities automatically (and accurately!)
  • Offers a food logging feature

Cons

  • App isn't the most user-friendly
  • Can't sync with any fertility apps
  • Battery life isn't the best (and neither is heart-rate monitoring)

Calling all fitness junkies: This one's for you. The Ultrahuman Ring Air is designed for anyone who want to optimize every part of their day, as it tracks your macros and micros, counts your steps, helps you train more efficiently, provides guided workouts, and so much more. Unlike similar smart rings, the Ring Air focuses specifically on providing insights into your body's metabolism (and it can even be paired with Ultrahuman's M1 glucose monitoring patch for more extensive metabolic tracking). It'll also give you real-time actionable nudges throughout the day to keep you moving and grooving, and all ring colors are priced at $349.

  • Material: Titanium
  • Colors: Aster Black, Raw Titanium, Matte Grey, Space Silver, or Bionic Gold
  • Sizes: 5-14
  • Battery life: Up to 6 days
  • Compatibility: iOS and Android

Glowing Customer Review: "I recently got the Ultrahuman Air Ring, and it’s been a fantastic addition to my health routine. It continuously monitors my heart rate, oxygen levels, and body temperature with impressive accuracy. The real-time updates keep me informed about my health. The sleep tracking is a game-changer. It breaks down my sleep stages and gives me a score, helping me improve my sleep quality. "

Ultrahuman Ring Air vs. Oura Ring

ring air
Ultrahuman

While the base price of the Ultrahuman Ring Air might be a *tad* higher than the Oura Ring, it doesn't come with any subscription fees, so you'll still save in the long run (plus, unlike with Oura, all metal finishes are the same price!). For fitness lovers, the Ring Air tracks more types of movement than the Oura Ring and recently introduced Automatic Workout Detection (which testers have found to be more accurate than Oura's Automatic Activity Detection feature, save for the heart-rate measurement). It also offers a food logging feature and even provides insights into your habits.

Now onto the drawbacks. Many testers found the Oura app more user-friendly than the Ultrahuman app, which offers SO much data that you may find yourself overwhelmed. And unlike Oura, the Ring Air doesn't yet have the ability to sync with any fertility apps, like Natural Cycles (though you can connect the Clue app to Ultrahuman to get insights into menstrual cycles). Finally, while the Ring Air claims to last up to six days without needing a charge, some users found the actual time was closer to four days.

4
best Oura Ring alternative for Android users

Samsung Galaxy Ring

Galaxy Ring

Pros

  • AI-powered sleep algorithms are so impressive
  • Can be synced with Samsung Galaxy smartwatch
  • Charging case and gesture control feature are fun perks

Cons

  • Not compatible with iOS
  • Automatic workout detection is pretty limited
  • Wellness tips aren't always the most helpful

The newest—and priciest—addition to the world of smart rings is the Samsung Galaxy Ring. Perhaps the best choice for Android users, this option utilizes impressive AI-powered sleep algorithms and activity monitoring—plus, it has a very cool gesture control feature, which allows you to do everything from take photos to snooze alarms with a "double-pinch" movement. Ya, it'll cost ya $400, but it uses Galaxy AI to provide insights into your heart rate, your activity trends, and even your daily physical readiness (and all without an app subscription!).

  • Material: Titanium
  • Colors: Silver, Gold, or Black
  • Sizes: 5-13
  • Battery life: Up to 7 days
  • Compatibility: Android

Glowing Customer Review: "I love it. It's light and convenient, and it is very comfortable. The integration with Samsung Health is really informative and useful, and it's excellent for sleep tracking. It's also easy to wear to sleep—I don't like wearing watches but I want to monitor my sleep patterns. This is a bold new direction for Samsung and it matches the ecosystem perfectly."

Samsung Galaxy Ring vs. Oura Ring

samsung galaxy ring
Samsung

My fave thing about the Samsung Galaxy Ring has got to be the impressive AI-powered sleep algorithms, which does everything from a snoring analysis to tracking movement during sleep and then offers a summary every morning. Because it's compatible with Samsung Galaxy smartwatches, you can also log workouts on your watch and log sleep on your ring, then store all your data together. Like RingConn, Samsung provides a charging case with its ring for charging on the go—and it also comes with gesture control for added versatility.

The most obvious con with the Galaxy Ring is that it stores data in the Samsung Health app...which is only accessible to Android users. Womp, womp. And while it does offer automatic workout detection, the activities are limited to walking and running, so it's not the best for fitness tracking. IMO, where it really excels is with wellness tracking—though the personalized insights and wellness tips offered by the app aren't always super helpful, according to testers.
