Gigi Hadid recently celebrated her daughter Khai's fifth birthday—and shared the party pics on Instagram. Cut to fans in the comments, who were wondering why Khai's dad, Zayn Malik (who coparents with Gigi), wasn't there for the celebration.

In response to a follower who wrote "I wish her dad would also be there," Gigi explained that Khai "was with us both on her birthday."

Gigi opened up about coparenting with Zayn in a recent interview with Vogue, saying, "Zayn and I do our custody schedules months in advance. That doesn’t mean that it doesn’t change here and there, but we help each other out and have each other’s backs."

The supermodel also said that she and her ex approach their coparenting relationship with "love, and a feeling of camaraderie," and that—as much as she tries to keep things private—she knows people are interested. "There is the hard part of the world knowing this much, and thinking they know everything," she explained. "And at the end of the day, we’re not interested in giving everyone our whole story. What we are interested in is raising our daughter together, with so much respect for each other, and not just as co-­parents, but what we’ve been through together."

Meanwhile, Zayn spoke about coparenting with Gigi a few years ago on Call Her Daddy, saying, "I have her 50 percent of the time, so that time I have with her is so important because I feel like she’s growing up so fast. So, when I’m with her I don’t work at all."

He added, "We just have fun. I feel like I’ve rekindled my own childhood through her. I feel like we get to a certain point in adult life where everything’s kind of vague and gray and boring, and she’s brought that color back for me for sure."
