If you watched The Traitors season 3 reunion, you might remember that there was one major element of the season that wasn't addressed: the sexism that plagued the season and made for many awkward moments (remember when Tony ordered two women to sacrifice themselves in the very first challenge?). Well, it turns out that it actually was addressed by co-winner Gabby Windey, it just wasn't aired!
Speaking to fellow player Carolyn Wiger on this week's episode of the Long Winded podcast, Gabby opened up about her frustration with the men in the castle. “I learned that misogyny is alive and well and so is the patriarchy because no one took us seriously,” she said, recalling what she thought when the reunion host Andy Cohen asked her what she learned from the show. (In the episode that aired, Gabby said in part, “My biggest takeaway a lot of the time is just how strong the women were and how much we banded together.”)
“There cannot be a woman, sole, traitor hunter,” she said, noting that she felt underestimated in the castle. “It's the definition of misogyny is that we like to show our tits, I like to show my ass, we're smart, but they think it's a surprise to us that we're smart. But a man can be so innocent. Like, there hasn't been one woman that's undeniably faithful.”
Then Carolyn asked perhaps the season's biggest question: “Don't you feel like you could have been Dylan?” Dylan Efron, who won along with Gabby, Ivar Mountbatten, and Dolores Catania, was largely seen as one of the heroes of the season after he correctly pinned Bob the Drag Queen as a Traitor, but he was suspicious of Gabby, causing a bit of tension between the two. “Everyone thought that Dylan was like the lead faithful,” Gabby said. “I could see him judging me in every conversation.”
Gabby also revealed that she had floated the idea of banishing Ivar before ending the game, saying “Ivar didn't need to win. Ivar did not need to be there in the end. I'm sorry, he doesn't need the money, he's a literal royal.” But, according to her, Dylan insisted on including Ivar in the winner's circle.
Whether or not Ivar deserved to win, just knowing that Gabby was ready to turn on a fellow Faithful is proof that she was there with a strategy and was in it to win it. Hopefully next time she's on reality TV, she'll have more of an opportunity to show us what she can really get up to.
