Only 1% of wineries in the U.S. are Black-owned, so you support diversity and equity in the wine industry with every Black-owned wine you buy.
To keep your bar cart well stocked, we've rounded up 20 of the best of the best. The selection of BIPOC-owned wines at your local liquor store can be hit or miss, so you'll probably need to purchase bottles or cases directly from the wine label or through an online alcohol retailer. We'll be shopping the minority-owned section at Total Wine & More, where you can find many of these bottles and have them delivered to your door or set aside for curbside pickup. Michael Lavelle Wines is a luxury Black-owned wine brand that opened its doors in 2020. The brand, founded by Howard alums, sells a range of wines that'll suit anyone's fancy. The Iris Zinfandel has flavor notes of fresh blackberries, dark cherries, vanilla, and hints of cocoa.
Earl Stevens, aka rapper E-40, has an eponymous California-based winery that offers everything from crisp whites to rich red blends. But we are really here for the Tropiscato—it's a Moscato blend that has tropical fruits mixed in with the grapes to create a sweet, fruity beverage that's basically vacation in a bottle. FYI: It's best served chilled over ice.
Charles Woodson—an 18-year NFL vet with 65 career interceptions, NBD—also has a love for winemaking.
