In the current era of dating fatigue and extra-short attention spans, building a dating profile that is both attention-grabbing and authentic to who you are is no easy feat. What’s interesting to one potential match might not be interesting to another, but your goal when online dating shouldn’t be to attract everyone—it should be to attract compatible people. Having a strong dating app profile that shows other singles what your life is like, and what you love and value is key to doing just that.

Basically, if dating you was a business, your dating app profile would be your business card. It should give potential matches a glimpse into who you are and make them want to match with you in just a few words and photos. If that feels like a lot of pressure, worry not. Hinge has tons of insightful prompts that can help you build a profile that feels authentic to you and what you’re looking for. Especially if that's a shared sense of humor. The funniest Hinge prompts aren’t necessarily funny because the prompts themselves are funny. But the way you answer them can show people your sense of humor and attract those who just get it. You know what’s extra hot? Not having to explain a joke after telling it.

“Hinge prompts provide a more authentic glimpse into who someone is, what they’re looking for, and what dating them would be like,” says dating coach and Hinge director of relationship science, Logan Ury. “Humor can create powerful connections when we’re first getting to know someone. In fact, a majority (92 percent!) of Hinge daters told us that they consider a shared sense of humor an important factor when considering being in a relationship with someone.

So before slapping the easiest prompt onto your profile, read through this list of funniest Hinge prompts and draw inspo from our suggested answers. As experts on all things love and relationships, trust us when we say these prompts work. In fact, the first 10 prompts on this list are the top prompts that lead to conversations, according to Hinge. (And prompts in the Storytime, Date Vibes, and My Type categories were more likely to lead to dates in 2024, JSYK.)

How Do Hinge Prompts Work?

The good news is that Hinge prompts are super straightforward. Very simply, they’re short questions/answers you display on your profile that allow you to showcase who you are and prompt a conversation. “Hinge prompts help get the conversation started with potential matches,” Ury explains. “Think about your profile as your opening line in a conversation—something your match can respond to or ask a follow-up question about.”

With just 150 characters and space to showcase only three prompts, the key here is to keep things short and sweet/flirty/sassy/honest/whatever. And while you might be tempted to make this your space for testing out new standup material, Ury says the key is to balance humor with vulnerability.

“Making your profile all one flavor is a common mistake we’ve seen time and time again,” says Ury. “If it’s overly serious and sappy, people will assume you have no sense of humor. On the flip side, if it’s all jokes and sarcasm, it will be difficult to tell who you really are.”

That said, if you’re ready to mix some humor into your v honest and v alluring profile, we’ve gotchu. Feel free to copy + paste any of the funny Hinge prompts below—just don’t forget to invite us to the wedding.

1. I go crazy for

Depending on your current dating goals, you can make this one flirty, sincere, or straightforward. Just make sure that whatever route you take, it’s honest.

What you can say:

  • Tattoos—on you, all over 😉.
  • "Sweet Caroline” at the end of a wedding. Catch me on the dance floor until the very last song.
  • The hash browns at Waffle House. Breakfast date?

2. The way to win me over is...

Any potential match should consider this a cheat sheet to your heart. The answer is literally right there! So use this space wisely and give them actually helpful ways to “win you over,” all while showcasing your spectacular sense of humor.

What you can say:

  • Being excited to go on weekend hikes with me and my dog. And being patient enough to pick me up each time I fall. (I’m clumsy. It’s gonna be a lot.)
  • Being nice to my cats. (They were here first.)
  • By winning over my neighbor/roommate. Their opinion >

3. Together we could...

This prompt is ideal for showing potential matches what your hobbies and interests look like. It doesn’t have to be super serious—if you love long walks, following recipes, Taylor Swift’s entire discography, etc., incorporate that into your answer in a lighthearted way.

What you can say:

  • Memorize every song on the Hamilton soundtrack.
  • Buy into a McDonald’s franchise. Free crispy Diet Coke forever? Yes please.
  • Walk the length of the entire city. Don’t worry, I’ll carry you.

4. My simple pleasures...

This prompt is all about the small things that oddly satisfy you, and it’s a perfect chance to show off your quirky sense of humor. Share those unexpectedly joyful moments that might make someone laugh or shake their head in amused agreement.

What you can say:

  • Watching people try to pull push doors—it never gets old.
  • The sound of silence when my parents finally stop talking about the weather.
  • Sneaking my own snacks into the movies. The more elaborate, the better.

5. A life goal of mine

Looking to share something meaningful or amusing about your future ambitions? Whether it’s a serious life achievement or a more whimsical aim, this prompt is your chance to showcase your depth or passions with a pinch of your personality.

What you can say:

  • Is to win an argument with a cat. As a childless cat lady, I’m not sure it’s possible, but I’m committed to trying.
  • Is to taste every type of cheese in the world.
  • Is to finally learn how to fold a fitted sheet without sweating or swearing.

6. We’ll get along if

There are obviously many different routes you can take here, but Ury says this is the chance to get a little vulnerable while keeping it light. The prompt is perfect for setting the stage for compatibility based on shared values, quirky traits, or even your lifestyle choices, so say something that reveals more about you while hinting at your clever side.

  • We’d both consider inviting our therapists to our wedding.
  • Your idea of a good time includes deep discussions about whether a hot dog is a sandwich.
  • You’ve also been known to leave concerts early to beat the traffic.

This is arguably the best Hinge prompt because Sundays are personal. You're either recovering from Saturday or fighting the Sunday scaries by being so overly-productive that you've essentially drained every ounce of energy you saved the day before. (Just me?) Basically, Sundays are important, and making sure your partner vibes with what you prioritize on that day = equally important.

What you can say:

10. This year, I really want to...

You can keep this one light, or dive deeper into a long-term goal. Just make sure it's something you can legitimately accomplish in one year.

What you can say:

  • Finish that book I've been meaning to write. (I haven't started yet but I'm about to, I swear.)
  • Spend as much time by water as humanly possible. Should probs learn to swim soon.
  • Delete this app. 💘

11. My BFF’s take on why you should date me...

15. The hallmark of a good relationship is...

The actual hallmark of a good relationship varies based on who you ask (and if you're asking us, it's open and honest communication and shared core values). However! Everyone knows there are some obvious shared habits or opinions that feel make-or-break. A few, below.
