It has been literal years since there's been a new season of The Crown, and like... the people are tired! Of waiting! But thankfully, the show *finally* returned on November 15 with part 1 of its final season, and needless to say we're ready for the ultimate binge fest. But it's only natural that once we're done watching the show in record speed viewing all the latest episodes, people would want to find other shows to fill the void until season 6, part 2. And there are a bunch of them. Here are the best shows to watch before and after The Crown.

1

'The Buccaneers'

Okay, we're stretching a little bit on the comparison here, but this new show follows a bunch of American heiresses who go to London to nab themselves aristocratic husbands. It's a world of advantageous marriages, dukes, lords, and money. Sound familiar?

'The Gilded Age'

'Downtown Abbey' shows up later on this list, so it's only fair that creator Julian Fellowes' other show, The Gilded Age, makes an appearance. It's basically about the fight to be the Queen of the Upper East Side in Gilded Age New York City.

Remember in The Crown season 4 when Charles first starts to hang out with Princess Diana's older sister and then ends up marrying Diana instead? That's kind of what happens in this show, which follows Empress Elisabeth of Austria as she marries Emperor Franz.

'Victoria'

Wanna know more about Queen Elizabeth's family tree? This show follows her great-great grandmother, Queen Victoria, during her reign. There are a lot of parallels between the two shows: women on the throne and all the issues that come along with that, and a very atypical romance.

'Elizabeth and Margaret: Love and Loyalty'

A documentary option! The dynamic between Queen Elizabeth and Princess Margaret is a fascinating one, and this doc gets wayyyy into it.

'Young Royals'

'Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy'

Another doc! Before the "royal rift" that drove a wedge between Prince William and Prince Harry, they made this documentary about their mother to mark the 20th anniversary of her death.

10

'Downton Abbey'

This show is a real upstairs-downstairs drama, meaning we get to follow all the fancy people upstairs in the titular Downton Abbey, but we get just as much about all the people downstairs who keep that big house running.

'The Spanish Princess'

Another Queen Elizabeth predecessor (kinda)! Way back when, Catherine of Aragon was the first of six wives of Henry VIII. And let's just say she did not have an easy time of it. This show captures that compellingly.

'The Windsors'

Probably the funniest entry to the list, this show hilariously parodies the modern royal family and features one of our favorite Fleabag ex-boyfriends as Prince William.

'The Tudors'

This show chronicles the reign of King Henry VIII of the Tudor dynasty (fancy sounding, I know) as he ruled the English throne from 1509 until 1547. However, it's def a, erm, sexy show as the monarch apparently did things a tad bit differently than Queen Elizabeth II (read: he was reportedly horny AF). Happy watching!

14

'The Americans'

Given that it contains plot lines similar to those in The Crown season 4, The Americans is def a show you're gonna wanna watch. TL;DR: It tells the story of Russian spies living a double life as the ultimate American family just outside of Washington D.C. Plus, the Cold War-era espionage drama ran for six seasons, so there's tons to catch up on.

'Catherine the Great'

This four-part HBO miniseries gives a glimpse into the life of Russia's longest-reigning woman ruler—aka Catherine the Great—throughout the mid- to late-1700s. It's similar to The Crown in that it, too, depicts a monarch's struggles and goes beyond the politcal to explore the personal and social complexities of leading individuals.

'The Royal House of Windsor'
