Fans were shocked when it was announced that Love Island UK contestant George Knight had quit the Villa just days after joining the ITV2 reality show as the first Bombshell of the season—and now, he’s explaining what happened.
In a June 5 Instagram post, George wrote, “Family comes first, always. Leaving the @loveisland Villa was a decision made in order to be with my family. Out of respect for them, I’d prefer not to go into any further detail.”
He added, “Thank you to everyone who has reached out with kind messages and support! It genuinely means a lot 🫶🏻❤️.”
He included a picture of himself and his sister, Emily, who left a comment reading, “love you george ❤️.”
George joined the show at the end of episode 1, where he and fellow bombshell Yasmin were given a secret mission by host Maya Jama to choose one boy and one girl to dump from the Villa the next day.
Then, just days later, an ITV spokesperson confirmed that George had chosen to leave the show, telling The Sun, “For private reasons, George has left the Love Island Villa.”
George, who is originally from Winchester, has been getting to know Robyn and Mica while in the Villa. During episode 3, he was seen kissing Robyn on the terrace just minutes after his rather flirty chat with Mica. Then, at the end of the episode, George and Yasmin had to deliver their decision over who they were going to dump from the Villa.
The pair revealed, after much deliberation, they were choosing to dump Ellie and Samraj. However, while George’s time in the Villa may be over, Ellie and Samraj are coming back for more in episode 4, which is set to hit Hulu and Disney+ in the U.S. on June 6.
