Bridgerton is back! Or, like, it will be much sooner than usual. The show is currently in production on season 5, and Netflix officially revealed that it’s returning in 2027, which might seem like a long way off but is actually the shortest gap between Bridgerton seasons yet.

Reminder: Season 1 premiered in December 2020, season 2 premiered over a year later in March 2022, season 3 premiered over two years later in May 2024, and season 4 premiered over a year after that in January 2026. So the fact that we’re getting season 5 in 2027 is actually pretty major.

Bridgerton season 5 focuses on the love story between Lady Francesca Stirling and Michaela Stirling and will take place two full years after the events of season 4 (when John Stirling died).

Per Netflix, “Two years after losing her beloved husband, John, Francesca decides to reenter the marriage mart for practical reasons. But when John’s cousin Michaela returns to London to tend to the Kilmartin estate, Francesca’s complicated feelings will have her questioning whether to stick to her pragmatic intentions or pursue her inner passions.”

Showrunner Jess Brownell said, “It feels groundbreaking. Obviously, there are a lot of great shows that have depicted queer love. We’re not the first by any means. But to make an entire Bridgerton season about a sapphic relationship feels huge.”

Jess added, “We are still always grounding our love stories in the fact that this series is about joy. And more than ever, season 5 is going to be about yearning….Those of us who know what it’s like to be in a sapphic relationship or have a sapphic crush understand that’s so baked into the experience.”
