When Euphoria premieres this Sunday, one of the many questions hanging over the season is: will Eric Dane appear? The answer is yes, and his scenes will be some of the most emotional of the season.
The Grey’s Anatomy actor passed away in February after a battle with ALS. The filming of this season took place primarily in early-mid 2025. So while he was sick at the time of filming, he was able to complete scenes.
Euphoria creator Sam Levinson spoke about navigating Eric’s role this season at the premiere. “Eric called me before we started shooting and told me that he had been diagnosed with ALS,” he told Extra. “We had a lot of conversations about just life and what that meant. I loved him very deeply, and I said, ‘Eric, whatever shape you show up in, we’re gonna make it work. I have faith that it’s all gonna work.’”
This will serve as Eric’s last on-screen role, making it even more emotional for fans of his and the show.
“When he showed up, I noticed that his speech was a little slurred,” Sam told Variety. “He was a bit self-conscious, and I said, ‘This works perfectly. We’re gonna put five beer bottles in front of you, and you’re about to say all of the shit you would never say if you were sober.’ And we just had a blast shooting. We had 28 cast members on Saturday for the wedding. There’s all these people around, and he just showed up with such grace and dignity. He’s a consummate professional all the way through, and I miss him.”
Euphoria season 3 premieres this Sunday night on HBO and HBO Max.
