The Outlander series finale is quickly approaching, and with that comes a whole slew of speculation as to who will make it out of the series alive and who will be less fortunate. As revealed in season 8, episode 1, Jamie will allegedly be killed in a future battle. Whether it'll happen during the season is anyone's guess. But what about everyone else? It turns out some of the actors would prefer their characters don't make it.

During a set visit to observe season 8 filming in Scotland, Sophie Skelton said that she initially pitched her character's death this season. She was debating whether Sophie and Roger belong in the past or the future, and she said, "Well, I did pitch Brianna dying, which didn't go down very well."

Okay, well at least someone had the sense to shut this down! We can't have a potential Jamie death and a Brianna death in one season. She continued to say that while Brianna is a bit held back in the past, she values being with her family most of all.

"The main crux of the show has always been that home is where the heart is," Sophie said. "Brianna is such a modern woman, so being in the past is extremely difficult for her. She's not able to flex her muscles in terms of her engineering skills. She was already a modern woman for the '60s, and so it's hard to see her chained to the times. But she really would choose family over convenience. Her happiness now lies in her people, as opposed to being with her time."

On that same visit in June 2024, Sophie said she had managed to make it through filming to that point without crying about the end of the show. While other cast members had said they were a bit of a mess, Sophie seemed to be holding herself together. "Although we did have a slightly emotional moment where, because we don't know how the show ends yet, we had a scene with Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe, Richard Rankin, and myself, and it became like, 'Oh God, this might be the last time we're all together.'"

While fans are still anxiously waiting to see how the show will end and what fun twists the final season will offer, the cast is confident they made something the audience will enjoy.

"I'm excited that we've managed to not finish it too abruptly for the fans, and be able todo the characters in the show justice by finishing it off properly," Sophie said.
