Bridgerton season 4 ended on an extremely bittersweet note, with multiple characters leaving (hopefully not for good!), a breakup, and a wedding. Here’s what everyone’s up to at the end of season 4 part 2 as we head into season 5 (which, by the way, is going to focus on either Eloise or Francesca!).
Sophie and Benedict Get Married
The romantic ceremony goes down during the Bridgerton end credits (a first for the series) and features Benedict having a sweet moment with Anthony before Sophie walks down the aisle. The camera then flashes to the family’s portrait wall, prominently featuring Benedict’s painting of Sophie from the masked ball. Could cry!
There’s a New Lady Whistledown
Penelope puts down her quill midway through the season, but the finale ends with a new mystery gossip following in her scandalous footsteps. “Are you perhaps feeling a little shock?” the new Lady Whistledown asks. “You thought I was gone for good, but far too much transpires for this author to remain silent. It is assuredly a reunion rooted in care and love. Though this time with a very different author.”
TBD on who Lady Whistledown 2.0 is, but the show will likely keep the mystery going for a few seasons before another reveal.
Sophie Gets Back Her Stolen Money
Turns out Sophie’s father did, in fact, leave her a dowry—which Lady Araminta stole. But! The Bridgertons agree not to press charges if Lady Araminta agrees to the story that Sophie comes from nobility—allowing her to marry Benedict with society’s blessing. Not to mention the Queen’s! Thanks to Alice Mondrich, Her Majesty realizes what a great couple Sophie and Benedict are and looks the other way when it comes to Sophie’s past.
FYI, Sophie coming into her stolen inheritance means Rosamund’s engagement is canceled—but Posy connects with a cute guy named Lord Barnaby at the Queen’s Ball, so there’s that.
Michaela Leaves London—and Francesca
Francesca asks Michaela to stay in London as they mourn the loss of John Stirling, and at first, she says yes. But in the final moments of the show—amid what are clearly some more-than-friends feelings—Francesca learns that Michaela actually packed her bags and left.
Lady Danbury Also Leaves London
Love that Lady Danbury is finally going to her ancestral home, but watching the final moments between her and the Queen was pretty heart-wrenching. Here’s to hoping next season kicks off with Lady Danbury back in London for a visit, because Bridgerton won’t be the same without her.
Lady Violet and Lord Marcus Seemingly Break Up
Violet wants to embrace her “carefree wild self” and not get remarried quite yet, which is a deal-breaker for Lord Marcus, who wants to settle down. They don’t officially end things, but the way Marcus leaves the Queen’s Ball seems...pretty final.
Eloise Is Kinda, Sorta, Maybe Ready-ish to Find Love
She’s certainly not out here looking for a husband, but Eloise comes around to thinking marriage isn’t the living hell she’d previously feared. At the very least, she’s no longer judging others for seeking out a match, and it seems like her heart is open (convenient because next season could be about her love story!).
On that note....
