The finale of Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 is officially streaming, and that means we've got one thing and one thing alone on our minds: what Greek god do I have to pray to to get season 3 rolling ASAP??
Luckily, there seems to be some good news coming on that front, and no, it doesn't involve an almost two-year wait like it did with season 2, so fans of the show have a lot more action-packed episodes to look forward to, and soon.
Here's everything we know about Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 3.
Is there going to be a season 3 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians?
If you didn't immediately click out of the finale episode once the credits started rolling, then you not only saw a preview of season 3 but an announcement that the show will be returning later this year. That's right! It's only going to be a matter of months before we're back at Camp Half-Blood, heading out on another quest that seems way too dangerous for a group of teenagers.
If you didn't catch the preview, you're in luck, because it was also posted to the show's Instagram. It shows a brief clip of the dance scene between Percy and Annabeth–a highly anticipated scene from the books. And that's all we get for now.
When does season 3 come out?
Disney unfortunately didn't tell us exactly when the third season will premiere, just that it will come out sometime this year. The show is still in production, so it's likely to be several months before it hits our screens.
What is season 3 about?
Season 3 of the show will follow the third book in the series, The Titan's Curse. Walker Scobell (who plays Percy) said in an interview with The Direct that the third season is "probably the most book-accurate season we’ve had yet," so we can expect it to follow the original story pretty closely.
Without giving up any major spoilers, the third book sees Percy and co. set off on a mission to save Annabeth and Artemis after they've been captured. They encounter even more gods along the way, and uncover even more of the dark plotting that's going on as Luke's faction looks to overthrow the gods.
What cast members will be in season 3?
All of the familiar faces that we've come to know and love from seasons 1 and 2 will likely be returning for season 3, with one exception: Timothy Simons' Tantalus, who was killed in the finale of season 2.
We can count on Walker Scobell (Percy), Leah Sava Jeffries (Annabeth), Aryan Simhadri (Grover), Charlie Bushnell (Luke), Dior Goodjohn (Clarisse), Daniel Diemer (Tyson), Glynn Turman (Chiron), Tamara Smart (Thalia), and Jason Mantzoukas (Dionysus). And if we're lucky, we'll get more Lin-Manuel Miranda as Hermes.
We've only seen Artemis in one episode, played by Daphne Keen, but with that character playing a larger role this season, she's likely to be getting more screen time. Aphrodite, played by Kate McKinnon, also makes an appearance in the third book, so fingers crossed she'll be back in the show too.
