There's only one more episode left of Stranger Things' fifth and final season and we're starting to get anxious about who's going to make it out of the Upside Down alive. So far this season, none of the main characters have died. Sure, Nancy and Jonathan came close in that room of goo, and yeah, Steve and Dustin made their "you die, I die" vow, but with just one episode to go, everyone is alive and well.
So, can we expect a blood bath in the final episode? According to the Duffer brothers, tentative no....?
Matt told The Hollywood Reporter, "It’s not Game of Thrones. We’re not in Westeros. I love Game of Thrones, but it’s just a very different type of show than that. There’s not going to be a Red Wedding situation. I think some things happen in the finale that are very surprising, but we’re not trying to shock or upset anyone. I hope by the time people get to the end of the finale that it just feels like there’s something inevitable about what happens, and that it doesn’t feel painful but feels satisfying. We’ll see."
He also spoke about Steve specifically (fans are VERY concerned), saying "But as for Steve’s fate. I don’t know. I can’t say. It would be the next logical step. He keeps getting beaten up more and more. The only way we could take it further is death."
Reminder that the series finale of Stranger Things airs December 31 at 8 pm ET.
