Here's everything you need to know about Mr. Whatsit in Stranger Things 5.
Okay, so who exactly is Mr. Whatisit in Stranger Things season 5?
Mr. Whatsit is originally introduced as an imaginary character that Holly seems to be constantly seen talking to after Hawkins was put on lockdown. His name stems from Holly's favorite book, A Wrinkle in Time, where there's a character named Mrs. Whatsit. According to Holly, Mr. Whatsit keeps warning her about the monsters that are set to come after all of Hawkins and wishes to protect her.
After Holly is kidnapped by the Demogorgon, Karen Wheeler reveals that Mr. Whatsit other name is also Henry AKA Vecna AKA One. He is using his 1950s persona to gain connection to the kids of Hawkins in order to try to lure them into the Upside Down to complete his plan.
While Holly is trapped into the hive mind and Henry's memories, he continues to use this persona to try to convince her that he is keeping her safe. He warns her not to leave the house or stray into the woods, but she receives a letter in the mail seemingly from Henry to tell her to go to a specific spot to help him. Instead of Henry, however, she finds Max who tells her the truth about him.
As the gang in outside world start to piece the truth together, they also discover that Henry is also targeting other children as Mr. Whatsit. In his speech to Will, Vecna reveals why he specifically goes after them:
Can you see them...William? Can you see the children? Do you know why? Why I chose them to reshape the world? It's because they are weak. Weak in body and mind. Easily broken. Easily reshaped. Controlled. The perfect vessels. And you...Will. You were the first. And you broke so easily. You should me what was possible, what I could achieve. Some minds, it turns out, simply do not belong in this world. They belong in mine.
As he takes the children into the Upside Down, he connects them into the hive mind and they soon discover that he needs 12 children in order to complete his plan.
