Survivor is all about pushing contestants to their limits, both socially and physically. But for members of the crew, it’s apparently much more romantic. In fact, in a recent interview, longtime host Jeff Probst confirmed that Survivor has resulted in the birth of 67 babies amongst crew members who met working on the show. That’s 17 more babies than seasons of Survivor.
Fans of the show already know that Survivor has led to a fair amount of showmances and even some real love stories—like “Boston” Rob Mariano and Amber Brkich or Keith Tollefson and Whitney Duncan—but behind the scenes, the show has had even more success when it comes to relationships.
According to a new report from People, many crew members have fallen in love on the job and gone on to have children—so called “Survivor babies.” And Jeff made it a point to make sure the Survivor set would be family-friendly. “As people started having kids, they’re not going to want to leave them. I know because I deal with it,” he explained.
As a result, Survivor has become the starting point for many families, including that of Brittany and Riley Crapper. Brittany, now a co-executive producer, started working on the show in 2011, where she met her husband Riley, who was working in the art department at the time. Fast forward 14 years, and the two are the proud parents of three daughters.
“This show not only created my entire adult life and career, but also created my life. I met the man of my dreams; I had three kid. My whole family is because of this show,” Brittany told People.
Not only are crew members allowed to bring their kids to Fiji during production filming—some of the kids even get involved. For instance, director David Dryden’s son Levi is his “partner” on set, while executive producer Matt Van Wagenen’s daughter Lyla lends a hand in wardrobe.
As Jeff explained to People, “They feel like they’re crew members.”
