After three years of debating over TV’s most polarizing love triangle, we have finally reached the conclusion of The Summer I Turned Pretty...and people have thoughts!! Of course, if you haven’t watched yet (or don’t plan on watching but simply want to know what all the fuss is about so you can keep up with the group chat), then you’re likely wondering: Who does Belly choose in the end—Conrad or Jeremiah?
Of course, that wasn’t the only lingering question answered in the final episode. Fans also got to find out the fates of Stephen, Taylor, Denise, that whole random startup plotline, and even Belly’s dad—so if you’re looking for answers, you’ve come to the right place. Below, the answers to all of your burning The Summer I Turned Pretty finale questions (and I think it goes without saying that there are MAJOR spoilers ahead).
Do Stephen and Taylor end up together?
The short answer: yes.
Things get a little rocky when Taylor finds out that Stephen’s startup with Denise has secured seed funding, requiring him to move to San Francisco (particularly because he never told her about said startup...), but in the end, she decides she’s willing to move to California with him. Cute!
What happens with Denise?
Things didn’t pan out between Denise and Stephen...but the finale does hint at the beginning of a new romance for her.
While prepping for a dinner party, sparks start to fly between Denise and Jeremiah—and eventually, she confessed that she thinks he’s a 10 (no lies detected). And though she’s planning on moving to San Francisco for the startup, which means there probably isn’t a future for her and Jeremiah, they do share a kiss so...who knows!
Who does Belly end up with?
As episode 10 revealed, Conrad flies to Paris to surprise Belly, only to find her returning to her apartment with Benito. Still, he approaches Belly and gets an invite to her pre-birthday dinner, where he learns that Belly and Benito actually split weeks earlier.
Conrad and Belly end up taking a romantic walk after dinner, kissing on the cab ride home, and spending the night together—though there is a little drama before they get their happy ending. The TL;DR? Belly gets in her head, Conrad leaves, Belly chases him to the train station and tells him “every version of me chooses you,” and Conrad kisses her. Hooray!
The episode flashes forward to Belly and Conrad in Cousins together in the summer, and while there is no sign of a ring, these two are definitely endgame.
Does Belly’s dad have a heart attack?
No. Despite him grabbing his chest in episode 10 and complaining about heartburn, he does not, in fact, have a heart attack in the finale. Phew!
What does Jenny Han’s note at the end say?
“Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the love you’ve shown The Summer I Turned Pretty all these years,” the note says. “Whether you’ve been with Belly since the very first book or joined us with the show, I’m so grateful you’ve made Belly’s story part of your summers.”
She adds, “We put our whole hearts into this show, and we’re so thankful to you for coming along with us on the ride. Maybe we’ll meet again one summer in Cousins. Until then – All of my love always, Jenny.”
