As the sullen Addams daughter would attest, the second season of Wednesday ended with appropriate levels of gore and chaos. But there were also a ton of loose ends and questions that even Wednesday with her psychic abilities can't answer. What happened to Enid? Who's going to be the principal of Nevermore Academy now, and how will they manage to make things more difficult for the student body of outcasts? Are you 'shipping Wednesday and Tyler more than ever, or relieved that she's prioritizing her roommate's safety? (Or both, TBH!) Let's get into the new mysteries and juicy details that the Wednesday Season 2 ending left us to ponder.
The second half of the season had some zany plots, like Enid and Wednesday doing a Freaky Friday body swap, the surprise return of Gwendoline Christie as the spirit guide/ghost of former principal Larissa Weems haunting our lurid leading lady, and a dance routine set to a new song by guest star Lady Gaga featuring an over-eager invisible girl obsessed with Wednesday named Agnes. But there were also several major mysteries, family secrets, and one major scam in motion that came to a head in the final two episodes.
Did Principal Dort manage to steal Grandmama Frump's fortune?
The seemingly cheery fearless leader of Nevermore Academy was hell bent on getting Hester Frump to donate money at a gala so that he can refurbish the school–or so he says. In the penultimate episode, Dort uses Bianca's siren skills to convince Morticia's mother Hester to give everything she has to Nevermore Academy. He also reveals himself as the covert cult leader of Morning Song. In a moment of regret, Bianca reveals to Wednesday what Dort made her do, but then erases the memory. However, unbeknownst to Bianca, the invisible girl Agnes was hidden nearby and tells Wednesday the truth.
The trio constructs a plan to distract Dort at the gala during Enid's dance performance. Agnes goes invisible again and steals Dort's necklace that blocks Bianca's power. Then, when she takes the stage to give a speech, Bianca uses her power to make Dort confess to everything he's done: manipulating Morticia and Hester, planning to run away with the money for himself under the pretense of expanding the school, and killing his associate/Bianca's stepfather. Ajax turns him into stone, and then a chandelier falls on him. That's the end of good ol' Principal Dort! The ghost of Weems is especially pleased.
But the season isn't over, and there are other antagonists on the loose...
What about Pugsley's zombie a.k.a. Tyler's uncle Isaac?
At the end of Episode 7, Wednesday's brother Pugsley gets kidnapped by his old pal "Slurp" (a corpse he reanimated) née Isaac and his family Tyler and Francoise. In the finale, the fam takes the youngest Addams to a tower and readies a Frankenstein-y power eliminating device to remove the Hyde monsters from Tyler and Francoise using Pugsley's zap power. Like, all of his power. The procedure, if successful, will deplete and kill him. Wednesday and Morticia race to rescue him as a family secret is revealed: this has happened before!
What do you MEAN Thing is actually Isaac's hand?
Of all the dead bodies for Pugsley to bring back to life, he just had to choose this one. Years ago, when Morticia and Gomez were younger, their telekinetic genius classmate Isaac stole Gomez's electricity power in a similar fashion to power an invention. (The Addams patriarch wasn't always a powerless outcast!) Morticia intervened, killed Isaac before the device killed her beloved Gomez, and cut off his hand. Those severed digits became the Addams Family friend and mascot Thing. Isaac, in full mad scientist mode, reattaches his long lost hand.
When Wednesday makes it to the tower she surprises herself by cutting Tyler loose, then removes the device from her brother and goes after Isaac with an ax ready to cut Thing back off ASAP. Tyler transforms into his Hyde form and attacks his mother, who transforms as well. The two wide-eyed creatures battle it out until Francoise falls to her death from the tower. Meanwhile, Thing regains autonomous control and kills Isaac, strangling him and ripping out the mechanical heart that keeps him ticking. Tyler, who can't very well just return to school like nothing over the past two seasons happened, flees into the night. Later, Miss Capri encounters him at his family's fresh graves and promises to take him to an underground Hyde pack.
Speaking of packs, what happens to alpha wolf Enid?
Earlier in the episode, in order to save Wednesday from being buried alive, (and once again thanks to a tip from Agnes' snooping whilst invisible) Enid takes a risk and transforms into a werewolf knowing that she may not change back. She digs up her bestie and flees into the night as well. Lots of fleeing happening in this finale! Will she ever return to her bubbly human form? Will she be hunted and killed before she's able? What about her newfound respect for and maybe even friendship with Agnes? At the end of the episode, Wednesday calls on her Uncle Fester to help look for her friend. If anyone is up for a dangerous challenge like that, it's Fester.
Before they go, however, one more Addams Family secret comes to light. Hester Frump may have apologized to Gomez and made amends with both her daughter and granddaughter, we learn that she has Aunt Ophelia locked up at her home. Wednesday has a vision of her sitting, alone, in confinement. Then we see Hester visiting Ophelia in a dungeon where our girl's psychic relative has written "WEDNESDAY MUST DIE" in blood. Ominous! We only see the back of her head. Convenient, because the role probably hasn't been officially cast yet. Season 3 now, please?? Chop, and I cannot stress this enough, chop.
