Spoilers for Wednesday season 2, part 1 ahead!
Nothing can stop true love. Not even when one of you transforms into a giant monster and throws the other out of a second story window to escape an asylum prison. At least, that’s what Wednesday star Hunter Doohan teased when asked about Tyler and Wednesday’s potential future in season 2, part 2 of the Netflix series.
If you’ve watched season 2, part 1, then you know that Wednesday doesn’t seem to be particularly interested in getting back together with Tyler, the boy she briefly dated in season 1 who then turned out to be a Hyde and serial killer. But according to Hunter, Tyler is more than open to the idea.
“You can see it in episode 2, the shift from the taunting in a flirty way and the way he is talking to her,” Hunter explained in an interview with Us Weekly. “Then when he finds out she’s just there for information, then it switches and he gets really angry because he’s so hurt.”
According to Hunter, Wednesday is Tyler’s only hope for genuine connection and even, potentially, acceptance. “Wednesday felt like maybe the one person who—because she’s Wednesday Addams—wouldn’t be afraid of him and hate him for those parts of himself and might actually embrace it,” he said.
So far, that hasn’t been the case. And while it might seem like Tyler’s decision to throw Wednesday out of a second story window at the end of season 2, part 1, would end any hope of romance forever, Hunter’s not so sure.
When asked if Tyler was in control of the Hyde when he threw Wednesday out the window, Hunter said that he does think Tyler was responsible for hurting her. “But,” he added, “also we just saw him rip Laurel to shreds and he doesn’t do that to Wednesday.”
It sounds like there’s definitely still hope for Tyler and Wednesday, but reconciliation probably won’t come in season 2. “Tyler is so hurt and filled with rage and very unhinged. You’ll see it gets even more unhinged when part 2 begins,” Hunter teased. “You get to see a lot more of what’s underneath.”
