They say never to fall in love with a serial killer, but TBH, it kinda worked out for Cardi B. The rapper has been an avid fan if You and the show's anti-hero Joe Goldberg for years, tweeting about it and even doing some promo work for the show. And, in the show's final season, Cardi B finally makes a cameo on You. Spoilers ahead for season 5 of You.
Sadly, Cardi doesn't actually appear physically in the show, but she does appear via tweet. Not only does Cardi B exists in the You universe, she's got her sights set on Joe. After being caught on a live-stream accidentally killing a man (yes, really), Joe turns to Maddie Lockwood for a little crisis management PR in episode 7, “#JoeGoldberg.” His emotional plea of innocence goes viral, catching the attention of, you guessed it, Cardi B herself. Her tweet, “when there are allegations but he's a 10 #JoeGoldberg,” is featured in a montage of social media reactions.
Cardi's twitter profile later returns in the You series finale, appropriately titled...“Finale.” At the end of You season 5, Joe has once again captured the attention of the masses, this time not for his live-streamed murder, but for viral video of his capture, which featured a very well-aimed bullet to the groin. “He WAS a 10 now he's 2 inches #JoeGoldberg,” she writes.
Admittedly, this isn't quite the cameo Cardi originally had in mind. Back in 2021, when her Twitter love affair with You and star Penn Badgley began, she pitched herself for a season 4 cameo. “So, it's episode 1 and I'm at Paris Fashion Week shutting it down! I turn around and there stands YOU,” she tweeted. “Ok finish it off @netflix.”
Cardi's vision never materialized. But her song “I Like It” was featured in the season 4 premiere, playing over Joe chopping up a dead body (naturally), and Cardi collaborated with Netflix on a reaction video to the scene. “Nobody could tell me nothing about Joe. I don't care,” she said in the video. “Like I'm a feminist, but it's like, Joe is kinda strong.”
Can't argue with her there!
