The classy Star Wars show for intellectual fans, Andor, is back on Disney+ for the second and final season. The series' conclusion will follow the titular rebel intelligence officer Cassian Andor, played by Diego Luna, from the events of the first season in 2022 all the way up to the events of Rogue One. Season 2 also continues the story of Mon Mothma, played by Genevieve O'Reilly, who goes from trying to affect change from within the Imperial Senate to officially leading the rebellion, and other familiar characters in this politically charged corner of the galaxy just before Luke Skywalker picked up a lightsaber. It's the sequel to a prequel to a prequel... got it??
In all seriousness, Andor is such a rich meal that you really need to set aside time to watch. The thoughtful, quotable monologues about the nature of fascism versus freedom and the carefully constructed plots about how the OG Star Wars Rebel Alliance formed against Darth Vader, the Emperor, and their many stormtroopers demand your attention. So there are a few things about the release schedule for Andor season 2 that are a little frustrating, as someone who wants to marinate in this world. But at least it's finally here, right?
When does the next episode of Andor drop?
Season 2 premieres on April 22, 2025 with three brand new episodes on Disney+. That's right, three! You might as well call it movie night, because watching the new Andor episodes all together will take up as much of your evening.
Star Wars fans should plan to settle in on Tuesday nights for the time being, in fact. The second season of Andor will drop three episodes every week on Tuesday at 9 p.m. Eastern Standard Time until the series finale on May 13, 2025. Of course, if you live in other parts of the world, that's Wednesday morning. Adjust the date and time (and brew your caffeinated beverages) accordingly!
Each group of three episodes take place a year apart and functions as four mini-arcs with different writers and directors. So grouping them this way makes a little sense. But still, streamers really are allergic to their shows taking over more than a few weeks worth of conversation, huh? The seasons are either devastatingly short, or they drop the whole thing at once and binging becomes a race to avoid spoilers. Even when a show has a weekly release and more than 6-8 episodes, streaming networks like Max and Disney+ double or triple those bad boys up. I'll never understand why anyone thinks that's a good business model. Andor could have had people subscribed to Disney+ until July! Or, if they were trying to meet the May 31 deadline for Emmy nominations, why not premiere earlier? Alas.
