Peanut butter and jelly; macaroni and cheese; Bert and Erniesome things are just better when put together. The same can be said for sitcoms, which is why when news first broke of an Abbott Elementary and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia crossover episode, fans of both series were immediately excited. And now, the time has finally come. Two of your favorite comedy worlds are about to collide when the It’s Always Sunny gang find their way to the hallowed halls of Abbott Elementary for the ABC show’s midseason premiere on Wednesday, January 8 at 8:30 p.m. E.T. And if the trailer alone is any indication, this is one collaboration you won’t want to miss.

However, this won’t be the only instance where these two iconic groups will come face to face. Similar to how the It’s Always Sunny troupe will drop into our favorite elementary school, the Abbott teachers will also make their way to Paddy’s Pub on a separate episode of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Because, honestly, why do an epic crossover just once when you can do it twice?! Here’s everything you need to know about the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia crossover episode.

When will the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia episode air?

While we know for a fact that the Abbott Elementary episode of the two-part crossover event will occur on January 8, the exact date and time of the It’s Always Sunny portion has yet to be announced. In fact, Season 17 of the FXX series doesn’t even have a premiere date yet. So far, all that’s been revealed is that the episode (and new season) will air sometime in 2025, which I realize doesn’t exactly narrow things down much.

However, Kaitlin Olson, who plays Deandra Reynolds on It’s Always Sunny, revealed to Variety back in October 2024 that the Abbott cast would be “jumping into our world in a couple of weeks, which is very exciting. So it’s been really fun for both of our casts to be able to do.” If that’s the case, then filming for the It’s Always Sunny episode should already be completed, which will hopefully make the air date come sooner rather than later.

Which Abbott cast members will be in the crossover episode?

As of now, details about the part 2 crossover episode are pretty scarce, but considering that all five of the main stars of It’s Always Sunny—Olson, Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton, and Danny DeVito—showed up on Abbott, then most, if not all, of the central Abbott players should appear in kind on It’s Always Sunny. And considering the rather raunchy company they’ll be keeping, we may be seeing a very different side to these respected educators that would make even Ava blush.

So whenever this episode makes its grand debut, odds are it’ll prove to be well worth the wait.
