She’s been the main character since season 1 and has truly gone through it all. Like, she’s had an iconic feud with Christine Quinn, revealed absolutely everything about her divorce from Justin Hartley on screen, dated her boss Jason Oppenheim, and then found true love with partner G Flip. But is there a chance Selling Sunset icon Chrishell Stause could be leaving the show?
Since the release of the series’s eighth season—which follows the professional and personal lives of the real estate agents at luxury real estate firm The Oppenheim Group—on Netflix last week (September 6), Chrishell has hinted that this could be the last time we see her in the office following the fallout from this season.
So, what is going on exactly? Here’s what you need to know about whether Chrishell is, in fact, leaving Selling Sunset.
Is Chrishell leaving Selling Sunset?
Okay, so the reason everyone is starting to question whether Chrishell will return to the show for a potential season 9 is because of all the drama that kicked off before season 8 even dropped on TV.
Ahead of the release last week, Chrishell took to Instagram to call out Netflix and the production company behind the series for the “lies” that were distributed about her best friend Emma Hernan.
Chrishell appears to have seen pre-release screeners and warned her followers to not believe what was being shown in the new series.
“Disclaimer when you watch: Just know she spews a disgusting lie about a bestie that is categorically FALSE and SUPER damaging. It is NOT TRUE...,” she wrote on the social media platform.
Now that season 8 has dropped, we know these “lies” Chrishell was referencing are likely the accusation fellow agent Nicole Young brought to the show, wherein she claimed Emma was having an affair with a married man based on rumors she had heard. At no point were the rumors brought up to Emma in the series, and Chrishell has since called out production company Done and Done for not allowing Emma to defend herself.
“@done_and_done_productions and you are disgusting for blindsiding her with this to see with the world instead of letting her at LEAST defend herself with the TRUTH,” she penned.
As part of these posts, Chrishell also added she would not work on the show again while a member of the team, presumably Nicole, was still on it.
“I will NEVER work on a show with her on it again,” she said before adding she “would rather be sued.”
Chrishell then doubled down on her word that she wouldn’t work on a show with Nicole again while being interviewed on ExtraTV.
During the convo, Chrishell was asked if she was going to make an ultimatum that if Nicole is on the show for season 9, she wouldn’t return, and answered, “I will never work on a show with her again.”
The host then asked, “So it’s either she goes or you go,” to which Chrishell replied, “It would seem that way.”
Given her stance on not working on the show if another member of the cast is, it’s seriously brought into question whether we’ll see Chrishell return for another season.
However, as of yet, it’s not even been confirmed by Netflix if the show will return for season 9—although, given all the drama from this past installment, we’d be surprised if it didn’t
