The 2024 Paris Olympics are over and they’ve truly been unexpected levels of awe-inducing, dramatic, and entertaining. But whomst won, you ask?
I mean, it depends on your definition of “won,” because I think we can all agree the answer is Australian breakdancer Raygun based on vibes alone. But if you’re speaking of sheer amounts of medals, that’d be good ol’ Team USA.
The United States finished the Olympics with the most medals of any country: a whopping 126. China came in second with 91 medals, while Great Britain took third with 65 medals total. Meanwhile, France—who hosted the Olympics in Paris—came in fourth with 64 medals.
As for which country won the most gold medals specifically, that would be the USA and China, which were both tied with 40 each. Team USA also earned 44 silver medals and 42 bronze. In fact, the team did so well that—per the Washington Post—more than 40 percent of the nearly 600 athlete-strong delegation received “at least one” medal. Oh, and FYI, women athletes won 65 percent of Team USA’s medals. Just saying!
Meanwhile, ESPN reports that “winning” the Olympics (or, at least, racking up the most gold medals) is kinda a trend for the United States. The last time Team USA didn’t win the most gold was at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, when they came in second to Team China.
In other words, Team USA crushed it, per usual. Congrats everyone!
