I can't stop thinking about The Acolyte, the new Star Wars series on Disney+ that's like a murder mystery cat-and-mouse game set in the galaxy far, far away. I can already tell that whatever happens with my new best Star Wars friends Mae, Osha, Yord, Sol, Pip, Jecki, and Qimir won't be enough. Here's what we know about The Acolyte Season 2.

The good news, for those who are already clamoring for a second season, is that Disney+ isn't shy about renewing Star Wars shows for multiple seasons. We know that much. Sure, there have been some one-off miniseries like Obi-Wan Kenobi and The Book of Boba Fett, but The Mandalorian, Andor, and Ahsoka are all ongoing. There have also been a handful of successful animated Star Wars shows on the platform, like The Bad Batch, that went on for a couple of seasons. It's not out of the question that this show could and would go on.

So is The Acolyte coming back for season 2?

We don't know yet! The series has only just begun on Disney+ and while the #YordHorde is going strong it's hard to say if there will be a demand for Season 2 or if there will be more story to tell at all.

What would season 2 be about?

The Acolyte is set "100 years before the rise of the Empire," a series of events that are depicted in the Star Wars prequel films. (Obviously, an Empire must rise before it can strike back, ya know?) That means that The Acolyte could go on for many seasons without bumping up against Anakin Skywalker, Qui-Gon Jinn, Mace Windu, or any of the familiar characters from the Star Wars universe.

When would The Acolyte season 2 come out?

Look, I'm not thrilled that television seasons are shorter and come out every two years, but that's the world we live in now. And I know that that's partially because pandemics and strikes have rattled television production. I just think we got a little too used to it, you know? In a perfect world, The Acolyte would be renewed for Season 2 and that Season 2 would come out next summer. But there were three years between The Mandalorian Season 2 and The Mandalorian Season 3 and there's going to be at least two years between Andor Season 1 and Season 2.
