Model, actress, and former RuPaul's Drag Race star Carmen Carrera is set to make history as the first openly transgender person to wed on a reality television show, People reports.
"Knowing that I was going home a married woman gave me a sense of peace," Carmen said of her wedding to longtime love Adrian Torres, which was filmed as a part of her appearance on the VH-1 show Couples Therapy With Dr. Jenn.
"Celebrating our love and what we call our 'modern, modern family,' lets us know that we belong here and that we also have a place to raise a family of our own on our terms," Carmen said. "We feel truly blessed."
The ceremony was also attended by Adrian's two daughters from a prior relationship, Ahsia, 11, and Leeah, 7, as well as fellow members of the cast.
According to the show's site, Carmen and Adrian were previously wed for eight years but separated due to infidelity. The couple entered therapy to repair their marriage and hopefully get back together. (It seems to have worked, so congratulations to them!)
"We realize we are so lucky to have found one another," Carmen told People. "He has shown me that unconditional love transcends gender and the exterior appearance."
The episode of Couples Therapy With Dr. Jenn featuring Carmen's wedding will air this Wednesday, Dec. 9, at 10 p.m. on VH-1.
