You don’t need us to tell you that Doja Cat is VMAs royalty—the multi-hyphenate has taken the main stage of the iconic awards show three times and even hosted the show in 2021. (How can we ever forget her worm-inspired outfit?)

This year, she ushered in her ’80s pop–inspired Vie era with a showstopping performance of “Jealous Type.” The track was featured in Marc Jacobs’ pre-fall campaign in May, which left fans begging for its official release. It wasn’t until August 21 that she dropped the song, and now, fans are being fed with the artist’s awards show debut of the track as she performed it alongside Kenny G in a chic black-and-white ensemble, complete with a little polka dot hat.

Doja last hit the VMAs stage in 2023, when she performed a medley of hits from her album, Scarlet, including “Attention,” “Paint the Town Red,” and “Demons.” She also hosted the show and defied gravity when she sang Planet Her’s “Been Like This” and “You Right” in 2021.

The hitmaker’s upcoming album, Vie, is set to drop on September 26. During a recent interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, she opened up about love bombing becoming a central theme of the record.

“There’s other things outside of myself that were inspiring me to write about these things. I had been in relationships that made me think about things in a different way, and I think naivete is a big part of this album too,” she said. “I speak about rushing and love bombing in a way. That’s kind of a big one. I think that’s a fun subject to sing about.”

Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carpenter’s go-to producer, Jack Antonoff, also worked with Doja for her new pop-leaning project. The “Kiss Me More” singer admitted that getting to know him in a studio setting has been “wonderful” and that it’s “nice to play” with the material.

“I’m working with Jack Antonoff and working with a person that’s new in my life,” she shared. “And so it’s the grappling with talking about something personal and creating something fresh, and then getting to know someone new, and then all of these things fell together really naturally, and he’s just been such a wonderful person to work with.”

If “Jealous Type” is any indicator, we’re in for some bangers. Marking our cals as we speak!
