Hi, hello, you’d be correct to assume that Tate McRae’s So Close to What is on heavy rotation. Tate hopped on tracks with her boyfriend The Kid LAROI and reigning rap royalty Flo Milli, but there’s another celeb who appears on her third album: Sydney Sweeney. On the opening track, “Miss Possessive,” Sydney says, “No, seriously, get your hands off my man.”

Devotedly faithful Tater Tots (yes, that is what Tate stans are called, thanks so much for asking) heard Sydney’s voice when So Close to What officially dropped on February 21. That same day, Tate posted a TikTok promoting the song and confirmed the Euphoria actor’s cameo. “Y’all catch miss Sweeney in the intro,” she wrote in her caption.

On February 24, Sydney showed love for Tate’s track when she featured it as the soundtrack to her recent Instagram post of Paris Hilton’s birthday party.

But if you’re wondering how these two even linked up to begin with, Tate explained how it came to be during an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. She shared that they met during their last appearance on the late-night show, where Tate performed “Greedy” and Sydney sat down for an interview.

“We both kind of knew each other, kind of waved and said hi. And Glen Powell, who I do pilates with sometimes, he just connected us,” Tate dished.

“Sydney was just such a legend and sent me, like, 10 versions of this little voice memo thing and it was, like, three days before the release,” she gushed. “She’s the absolute best for even doing it. It’s so cool.”
