30 New Horror Movies to Keep You Terrified All Year Long in 2024

Spooky season can last all year if you want it to. New horror movies have been released throughout 2024—with a major one, Nosferatu, still to come to end the year. These new flicks include sequels to recent scary hits, prequels and spinoffs for beloved horror classics, and original stories about things like devilish stuffed animals out to ruin lives.
If you're looking for lighter takes on horror, there's a couple of movies for you. Like, 1988's Beetlejuice is getting a long-awaited sequel with some of the original cast members returning. Also, there's a new take on the Frankenstein story from writer Diablo Cody (Juno, Jennifer's Body) about a 1980s teen who reanimates a corpse played by Cole Sprouse. Or what about romance-comedy-horror? Your Monster might be the one.
Looking for something a bit more intense? One of the first horror releases of the year was Night Swim, which is about a haunted pool. There's also the A Quiet Place prequel about how people first found out that they would have to be silent to avoid being attacked by those frightening sound-sensitive aliens.
And, if you're looking for all out gore, Smile is getting a sequel, and there's also Terrifier 3, which is the sequel to a movie that reportedly made some viewers vomit and faint when they watched it. So, basically, after you look at this list of 2024's horror films, make sure that you proceed at your own risk.
Night Swim

In Night Swim, Kerry Condon and Wyatt Russell star as a couple who move into a new house with their two kids. But rather than a haunted house movie, it’s a haunted pool movie. As a hint of what you’ll get, the trailer includes a scary game of Marco Polo.

The horror-comedy Lisa Frankenstein stars Kathryn Newton as a teenager in the late 1980s who gives a corpse (Cole Sprouse) the Frankenstein's monster treatment and makes him into her boyfriend. Things get more gory from there.

How about a creepy bear movie? A woman (DeWanda Wise) moves back into her childhood home and finds that her step-daughter Alice (Pyper Braun) bonds with her old teddy bear, Chauncey. The problem is, Chauncey is creepy as hell!!
Immaculate

Sydney Sweeney stars in Immaculate as Sister Cecilia, a young nun, who moves into a convent where she finds out that she is pregnant despite being a virgin. Things get freakier from there as she finds out the truth of her situation and why everything at her convent happens to be beyond scary.
The First Omen

Forty-eight years after the release of the classic horror film, The Omen is getting a prequel withThe First Omen. Nell Tiger Free stars as a woman who moves to Rome to work for a church and soon learns of a plot to bring forth an Antichrist.
I Saw the TV Glow

I Saw the TV Glow is about two teen friends, Maddie (Brigette Lundy-Paine) and Owen (Justice Smith), who are obsessed with a TV show called The Pink Opaque. They eventually part ways, but Maddy returns to Owen years later saying that she is actually Tara (Lindsey Jordan), one of the characters from the show, and that Owen needs to bury himself alive in order to become his true identity of Isabel (Helena Howard), another character from the series, leading Owen to question his reality.
The Watchers

Dakota Fanning stars in The Watchers as a woman who becomes stranded in a forest in Ireland alongside three other people who all find out they are being watched by spooky creatures. The film is directed by Ishana Night Shyamalan, daughter of noted thriller director M. Night Shyamalan.
A Quiet Place: Day One

Unlike the first two movies, A Quiet Place: Day One does not follow the Abbott family (which included characters played by John Krasinksi and Emily Blunt), but is instead a prequel about the time when the murderous sound-hating aliens first arrived on Earth. Lupita Nyong'o stars.
MaXXXine

MaXXXine is the third film in director Ti West’s X series, which stars Mia Goth. The first film X, showed Goth as an adult film actor, Maxine Minx, who survived a massacre. The second film, Pearl, is a prequel in which Goth plays the title character. This new addition is a sequel to X and is about Maxine continuing her goal of becoming a famous star while living in Los Angeles during the same time as the real life serial killer known as the Night Stalker.
Longlegs

Maika Monroe plays a FBI agent investigating a serial killer known as Longlegs. But, she learns that she has a personal connection to the murderer making things even more complicated and terrifying. Nicolas Cage co-stars as Longlegs.
Cuckoo
Available on VOD now
Hunter Schafer stars in Cuckoo as a teenager, Gretchen, who moves to the German Alps to live with her father (Marton Csokas). There, she begins working as a receptionist at a hotel, but disturbing things star occurring leaving Gretchen wondering what is really going on. The reveal lets you in on why the film is called Cuckoo.
Alien: Romulus

The ninth movie in the Alien franchise Alien: Romulus is a standalone story that is set between the events of the first and second movies from 1979 and 1986. This one is about a group of colonists on a distant planet who face off against a horrifying enemy. Stars include Cailee Spaeny and Isabela Merced.
The Deliverance

The Deliverance is inspired by a real life situation in which a family reported that they experienced supernatural activity in their Indiana home in 2011 with exorcisms being performed in reaction. The film stars Andra Day, Glenn Close, and Mo’Nique.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

Thirty-six years later, Beetlejuice is getting a sequel that features the return of director Tim Burton and cast members Winona Ryder, Catherine O'Hara, and Michael Keaton as the titular home-haunting Beetlejuice. They’ll be joined by new characters played by Jenna Ortega, Monica Bellucci, and Willem Dafoe.
Trap

Trap is more of a thriller than a horror movie, but there are certainly scary elements in this M. Night Shyamalan film. Josh Hartnett plays a serial killer, who gets trapped by authorities at a pop star's (Saleka) concert that he is attending with his daughter (Ariel Donoghue). Can he escape and maintain his double life as a killer/family man? Time to find out.
Speak No Evil

James McAvoy and Mackenzie Davis star in Speak No Evil, which is based on a 2022 Danish movie. The film—described as a psychological horror thriller—follows a family who take a countryside vacation but find that their trip turns into a nightmare.
The Front Room

Brandy stars in The Front Room as a pregnant woman whose mother-in-law (Kathryn Hunter) moves in with her and her husband (Andrew Burnap). The problem? Well, there's a few, but one of them is that the mother-in-law believes that she is possessed by the Holy Spirit.

The Substance

The Substance is a body horror movie starring Demi Moore as Elisabeth, a woman who stars in an aerobics show. She takes the opportunity to try a drug called “the substance”, which will make her appear younger and more beautiful. The thing is, it does this by creating a second body, named Sue (Margaret Qualley), with which she has to regularly switch places lest her original body become increasing decrepit and horrifying.
House of Spoils

Ariana DeBose stars in House of Spoils as a chef who is opening up her first restaurant. Doesn’t sound so scary? Oh yeah, the restaurant’s location is being haunted by its previous owner.
