• The cast of The Summer I Turned Pretty are making a shockingly small amount of money (relative to the norm!) for the upcoming movie.
  • The core cast tried to renegotiate salary bumps ahead of season 3, and a source says they signed onto the movie at the same time under “duress.”
  • TSITP actors might “not be keen” on doing publicity for the film if their contract doesn’t stipulate that they have to.

There’s drama behind the scenes on the The Summer I Turned Pretty movie. Deadline reports that the core cast—Lola Tung, Christopher Briney, Gavin Casalegno, Sean Kaufman, and Rain Spencer—will start filming later this month with a “salary issue” “simmering in the background.”

Sources tell the outlet that Lola, Christopher, and Gavin started the show making about $35,000 to $40,000 per episode, and started renegotiating their salaries ahead of Season 3. The talks were apparently “well underway” when the actors were asked to “commit to a movie.”

Insiders close to the cast say this was “met with resistance”; however, they were told they’d “only get salary bumps” if they agreed. They ultimately did so, but some of the leads felt “forced” to accept and only signed “under duress,” since their raises were “in jeopardy.” Meanwhile, studio sources claim everyone was on board.

As for how much their raises were, some sources say they’re getting about $100,000 per episode for The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 (with Lola making the most), and “three episodic fees” for the movie. So, presumably around $300,000…which—while plenty of money!—is very little for a famous actor in a major movie.

Some of the cast reportedly reached out to get increases/bonuses for the film, and were denied—and now there’s a conversation about whether they contractually have to do promotion for the film since—per Deadline—“given the treatment, actors may not be keen on performing publicity if their deals don’t stipulate that.”

Truly jaw-dropped at all this! Give TSITP cast their money!
