Bursting at your neck staples to see Maggie Gyllenhaal’s reimagining of The Bride of Frankenstein starring Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale as the undead lovers? The new movie The Bride! is already in theaters, so here’s what you need to know about how to watch it there and elsewhere.

Buckley plays the titular Bride, and Bale is “Frank,” a.k.a. Frankenstein’s monster/creature. He introduces himself as “Frankenstein, named for my father.” It’s an effective way to work around people who think the monster’s name is Frankenstein, and annoying nerds like myself who correct with a “Well actually, the scientist is Frankenstein.” Even more annoying nerds will give you a deep look and tell you the scientist is the monster. You can’t win. Just call him Frank.

But of course, he’s not the protagonist. In the film, with a boost from Mary Shelley, Frank finally gets his request for a companion granted in the 1930s. It was worth the wait. The Bride dominates the jazz-fueled narrative and chaos that follows.

How can I watch The Bride! ASAP?

The Bride! is in theaters (mostly) worldwide as of March 6, 2026. You can see it in IMAX if you’re feeling fancy. Regal Cinemas is also showing the film in 4DX, if you have one of those locally and are feeling athletic. Who doesn’t like to be tossed around during a movie? Could be fun!

Where will The Bride! be streaming?

The film is a Warner Brothers production. Common sense would decree that HBO Max is therefore The Bride!’s most likely streaming home. However, I’m not sure if you’ve been following the news… but Warner Brothers is merging with Paramount Pictures after a deal for Netflix to purchase the legacy studio fell through. We really don’t know how that’s going to shake up streaming yet.

In theory, The Bride! could instead or also go to Paramount+ now. Or maybe there will be a third option. Maybe the merger will birth a new streaming app. Maybe HBO Max will change its name for a fifth time. Why not?

How about WHEN will The Bride! be streaming?

That’s difficult to predict as well. The movie will likely be in theaters for about 4-6 weeks. After that, it will likely be available to rent on demand first. That will probably happen at some point in April. It usually takes another month or two for a new release to hit a streamer. (To use a recent HBO Max debut as an example, the Downton Abbey parody Fackham Hall was in theaters back in December of 2025 and just arrived on the app in March.) So we’re probably looking at May or June.

What should I watch while I wait?

A lot of folks have been comparing The Bride! to Joker: Folie à Deux, because they’re both jazzy movies about criminals in love. But unless you really want to play a “spot Connor Storrie” drinking game (and that’s so valid), I would skip Joker. Instead, queue up Margot Robbie in Birds of Prey for your Harley Quinn fix. There’s music, violent crime, female rage, and bisexual lighting aplenty in that one too.

I’d also recommend watching the original 1966 Arthur Penn film Bonnie and Clyde, or one of the other stone cold and/or cult classics that inspired Gyllenhaal’s film. Rent Young Frankenstein or even Lisa Frankenstein for a silly goofy time. While The Bride! isn’t exactly a musical, it did get me in the mood to rewatch dark and twisted musicals like Rocky Horror Picture Show and Little Shop of Horrors. With a movie like The Bride!, there truly are so many directions you can take.
