You know how sometimes you think you’re just babysitting your neighbor’s cat, but then that cat happens to be mysteriously tied to Manhattan’s underworld network of crime, which unwittingly puts your life at risk? Yep, that’s just a totally relatable experience. It also just so happens to be the central premise of Darren Aronofsky’s latest project, Caught Stealing, which takes place in the ‘90s and centers around the character of Hank Thompson (Austin Butler), a former baseball player who accidentally finds himself in the crosshairs of New York City’s most dangerous criminals—all thanks to a cat. (Anyone else getting major Men in Black déjà vu vibes from this? No? Just me?) Also, for the record, this would never happen with a dog—just saying!
The film, which is based on Charlie Huston’s book of the same name, hit theaters today, August 29. However, if you’re unable to make your way to the movie theaters over the next several months or simply prefer that your cinematic escapes take place in the comfort of your own home, you may be curious when Caught Stealing will be available for streaming. Here’s everything you need to know about your latest crime thriller obsession…
When will Caught Stealing be available to stream?
As is the case with pretty much every newly released film, Caught Stealing has yet to be given a streaming release date at this point in time. However, after a few weeks in the theaters more information about its next move is sure to be unveiled. But that could still be a month or even two months away, so depending on how patient you are to see this A-list cast in action, that air conditioned theater may start sounding better and better as time goes on.
Where can I stream Caught Stealing?
The good news is that Caught Stealing should eventually make its way to a streaming platform—but which one? Most likely, it will become available to buy or rent on the usual streaming suspects like Amazon Video and AppleTV+ (the latter of which already has a Caught Stealing page dedicated to it that says “Coming Soon” and allows you to add it to your watchlist).
As for where else the film could wind up, that remains to be seen. That said, a little detective work reveals that Caught Stealing is produced by Columbia Pictures, which is part of Sony Pictures, which brokered a multi-year deal with Netflix back in 2021 that bestows the platform with exclusive streaming rights for all films released in the U.S. So whenever Caught Stealing gets the green light to shift gears to streaming, Netflix should end up being its home base. Then all that’s left to do is to sit back, relax, and enjoy some nice, crime-fueled hijinks.
