Gather round horror movie fans, Stephen King readers, and those with celebrity crushes on Theo James, we have a new film for you! The Monkey is a comedy-horror movie about a toy monkey that seems to be responsible for a number of deaths surrounding twin brothers, Bill and Hal (both played by Christian Convery as teens and James as adults). When they're young, the brothers are able to get rid of the monkey and stop the deaths. But, would ya look at that, the creepy-ass monkey returns to haunt them anew in their adulthood.
If this sounds like your type of thing, read on to find out when and where you'll be able to watch The Monkey — whether you prefer to take in the scares with a bunch of other horror fans or would prefer the comfort of your own home to get you through this terrifying tale.
When is The Monkey coming out?
The Monkey hits theaters in the U.S. on Friday, February 21. But this means that the first showings for many theaters are on the evening of Thursday, February 20.
How can I watch The Monkey in theaters?
You can buy tickets for The Monkey online from Fandango or from your local theater's own website. Or just buy 'em in person, if you're not worried about your showing selling out.
How can I watch The Monkey at home?
Going to the theater is fun, and horror-comedy is a great genre to enjoy with other moviegoers. But, perhaps you want to watch The Monkey at home. In the light of day. With plenty of time to recover to hopefully avoid nightmares? Or maybe you want to plan a scary movie night with themed snacks? (Monkey bread? Bananas? Idk!) Whatever your reason is, you will probably be able to watch the movie at home pretty soon... depending on how much you're willing to pay.
The Monkey is distributed by Neon. Looking at some of the company's recent films, they tend to land on VOD about a month or two after their theatrical release. Then, thanks to a deal between Neon and Hulu, the movies usually stream on that platform several months later.
For example, Cuckoo hit Hulu four months after it debuted in theaters. Longlegs—which, like The Monkey, was directed by Oz Perkins—premiered on Hulu seven months after its release. Anora will stream on Hulu in March, five months after its release.
So, it's not possible to say exactly when The Monkey will be available online yet, but if you are willing to wait a month or two and pay to rent it (usually around $20), that will surely be an option. Or, if you have Hulu and are down to (likely) wait a few more months, there's that route, too. How soon do you want to be scared by a sinister toy is the only question.
