You don’t have to be a big Emily Henry fan to know that fans have been waiting years to finally get an adaptation of her books off the ground. After so many moments of waiting, the streamer is finally hard at work at bringing People We Meet on Vacation to our screens and so far, it looks like it will totally be worth the wait especially when you find out everyone who is involved. Ready to fall in love with Alex and Poppy’s story all over again?
Here’s everything we know about Netflix’s People We Meet on Vacation movie adaptation.
Okay, wait—is it finally happening?!
Back in October 2022, we learned from Deadline that Kuang (who has her own novel that came out earlier this year) was penning the screenplay and that All the Bright Places director Brett Haley would be directing the big movie.
Ever since then, it’s been a question of just when and fans have been waiting for big news ever since.
So who is starring in People We Meet on Vacation?
Casting such an iconic book takes some time and while we certainly had a lot of ideas as to who should play Alex and Poppy, we finally found out the names who will be bringing them to life in a big announcement that Netflix made on August 2, 2024.
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes star Tom Blythe will be playing Alex while Emily Bader, who recently starred in My Lady Jane on Amazon, is playing Poppy. They found out the news in the cutest way possible and luckily Netflix shared the footage with all of us on their socials:
What can we expect is going to happen?
Luckily, it’s pretty easy to find out! Emily Henry’s book is available for you to check out and read (or reread if you’re like us!). But if you’re new here, here’s the book description:
From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Book Lovers and Beach Read comes a sparkling novel that will leave you with the warm, hazy afterglow usually reserved for the best vacations.
Two best friends. Ten summer trips. One last chance to fall in love.
Poppy and Alex. Alex and Poppy. They have nothing in common. She’s a wild child; he wears khakis. She has insatiable wanderlust; he prefers to stay home with a book. And somehow, ever since a fateful car share home from college many years ago, they are the very best of friends. For most of the year they live far apart—she’s in New York City, and he’s in their small hometown—but every summer, for a decade, they have taken one glorious week of vacation together.
Until two years ago, when they ruined everything. They haven’t spoken since.
Poppy has everything she should want, but she’s stuck in a rut. When someone asks when she was last truly happy, she knows, without a doubt, it was on that ill-fated, final trip with Alex. And so, she decides to convince her best friend to take one more vacation together—lay everything on the table, make it all right. Miraculously, he agrees.
Now she has a week to fix everything. If only she can get around the one big truth that has always stood quietly in the middle of their seemingly perfect relationship. What could possibly go wrong?
When will the People We Meet on Vacation movie be released?
An exact release date hasn’t been revealed just yet, but at least that gives us plenty of time to go through Emily Henry’s entire bibliography before we get to watch it come to life!
