Saltburn

What vampires were to the millennials, cannibals are to gen z. This 2022 romantic horror from Luca Guadagnino stars Taylor Russell and Timothée Chalamet as young cannibals in love, trekking across the country in the late 1980s. It’s a damn good movie and features a career-making line reading from Chalamet with, “I ate him right the fuck up.”
Tár
As we look to the 96th Academy Awards on March 10, let us look back at one of the biggest films of last year’s awards circuit. Streaming on Prime, Tár stars Cate Blanchett as a fictional conductor, world famous, dripping in accolades, and facing accusations of misconduct. It seems Hollywood knows their audience. In a moment of gold plated injustice, Tár did not walk away with a single Oscar.
Suspiria
Another horror from Luca Guadagnino, Suspiria stars Tilda Swinton (in various roles, but we won’t say more) and Dakota Johnson (who shall be forgiven for Madame Web). The film follows a woman who begins training at a prestigious Berlin dance academy run by witches. Guadagnino adapted the 2018 film from the 1977 Italian film of the same name, and he did so impressively. Still, the film bombed at the box office, but hey, it was 2018.
The Handmaiden
This 2016 South Korean thriller is decorated. Beyond topping many “best of” lists in its year, the film has been deemed one of the best of the 2010s, and one of the best to come from South Korea. From Park Chan-wook, The Handmaiden follows a young woman hired as a handmaiden to a Japanese heiress, all the while secretly leading a mission to defraud her.
Foe
Starring Paul Mescal and Saoirse Ronan, Foe is a dystopian thriller that is, at times, hard to follow, but at once, extremely hot. That’s right, Foe takes two of Ireland’s hottest exports and makes four.
Inside
Not to be confused with Bo Burnham’s pandemic era masterpiece of the same name, Inside is a 2023 psychological horror starring Willem Dafoe as an art thief who finds himself trapped in a penthouse. To some a dream, to him a nightmare.

12 Angry Men
Let's take it back to 1957 with 12 Angry Men. This legal drama follows a jury of 12 men debating the verdict of a teenager accused of murdering his abusive father. The entire story hinges on the flexible definition of “reasonable doubt,” earning rank as the second-best courtroom drama ever made by the American Film Institute. The first? To Kill a Mockingbird, naturally.
Lamb
A classic weird art film from A24, Lamb follows the birth and life of a human-sheep hybrid child in Iceland. Taken in by two farmers, the creature is raised as a human, filling the empty space left by the passing of their own child. The film has a truly wild ending, but we’ll stop there for your sake.
Air
The latest on-screen collab between Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, Air follows the origins of the Air Jordan, one of the most recognizable and profitable shoe lines on the market.
