Miley Cyrus is celebrating 20 years of her breakout Disney Channel show, Hannah Montana. Longtime Hannah fans remember Miley’s real-life dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, also played the role on screen from 2006 to 2011. And despite some family drama after his divorce from Tish Cyrus, Billy Ray surprisingly took part in the Hannah Montana 20th anniversary special alongside his daughter in our good year 2026. Nature is healing!
The world premiere for the Hannahversary special went down at the iconic El Capitan theater in Los Angeles on Monday, March 23, and fans noticed that some members of the Cyrus clan—including Billy Ray, Trace Cyrus, Noah Cyrus, and Braison Cyrus—were noticeably absent.
Miley was joined by her fiancé, Maxx Morando, as well as her mom Tish, sister Brandi Cyrus, and her fiancé, Matt Southcombe. Tish’s husband, Dominic Purcell, also attended the family affair with his kids, Lily-Rose Purcell and Joseph Purcell.
While the reason for Billy Ray’s recent absence is unclear, he supported Noah and Braison during their show at the Franklin Theatre in Tennessee on March 15, according to an Instagram post.
“Had one of those nights that reminds you what really matters. Got to sit back and watch my kids do their thing on stage at the @franklintheatre … and man, they brought it!!!” he wrote, in part, before adding, “So proud of them. Not just as their dad... but as a fan. Every act was incredible.”
Reports of several rifts between the Cyrus family initially surfaced after Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus’ split in 2022. Their divorce seemed to divide their five kids over the years, but Miley and Billy Ray seemingly patched things up in May 2025, as she opened up about their dynamic on The New York Times’ The Interview podcast.
“My mom is like so in love with my stepdad Dom, who I also just completely adore,” she said. “And now that my dad, I see him finding happiness outside of that too, I can love them both as individuals instead of as a kind of, you know, a parental pairing.”
At the time, she got candid about Billy Ray’s relationship with Elizabeth Hurley, adding, “At first, it's hard. The little kid in you reacts before the adult in you and go, ‘Yes, that's your dad, but that's just another person that deserves to be in his bliss and be happy.’”
