- Justin Bieber and Usher reportedly got into a “heated exchange” at Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s Oscars after-party at the Chateau Marmont on March 15.
- Sources have come forward with more intel since reports of the alleged altercation have surfaced.
- Some insiders claim that Justin “simply did not want to engage in conversation with Usher,” while others suggest his former mentor “was ready for a fight.”
Justin Bieber and his former mentor, Usher, seemingly had an awkward run-in during Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s Oscars after-party at the Chateau Marmont on Sunday, March 15. ICYMI, TMZ first broke the news last week, reporting that Usher approached J.B. with “energy and anger” before getting into a “heated exchange.”
However, according to the latest report from theDaily Mail, the duo’s reported rift had “reached a boiling point” when the “YUKON” singer allegedly “brushed off” Usher.
“Usher feels Justin’s behavior of late and in particular on the night has been out of line,” one source said. Another denied that J.B. was disrespectful, adding, “Justin was at a party with his friends and with his wife and having a great time. What [Usher’s] taking as disrespect may actually be him feeling guilty or ashamed.”
The second insider suggested that Usher “just didn’t protect” Justin during the early days of his career.
While TMZ initially claimed that the run-in allegedly “ended up as a fist fight between the two,” other sources have since come forward with more intel on the situation and debunked that it “never got physical.”
One of the Daily Mail’s sources alleged that Usher had “held himself back,” adding, “Out of respect for Jay-Z and Beyoncé, he chose not to escalate the situation further, but some feel like he was ready for a fight.”
They continued, “From his perspective, there’s a level of loyalty and gratitude that hasn’t been reciprocated, and the distance between them has come off as dismissive and disrespectful. Usher, who played a key role in helping Justin get his start, feels that history matters.”
A third source told the outlet that Justin may be distancing himself from Usher because of his bruised relationship with his former manager, Scooter Braun, whom he paid a $31.5 million settlement after years of financial disputes in July 2025.
“He feels taken advantage of and has some disdain for his past management,” the third insider claimed, adding, “There’s always been tension after Justin blew up.”
On the flip side, DeuxMoi tipsters noted that the SWAG hitmaker, who’s set to headline Coachella next month, “simply did not want to engage in conversation with Usher.”
Deux’s source suggested “there was no specific point of tension,” adding that it was “just a personal choice to avoid an interaction.”
Neither Justin nor Usher’s reps have confirmed or denied the reports of their exchange—or lack thereof—at the Chateau.
