- The royals are secretly rooting for ex-Prince Andrew to end up in jail.
- There's concern amongst the family that if Andrew walks, he'll be "untouchable."
- Jail will also remove any obligation for King Charles to "bankroll" his brother.
King Charles' disgraced brother Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor might face a trial and even jail time following his arrest for "suspicion of misconduct in public office," and apparently the palace is rooting for him to be locked up.
A source tells Rob Shuter of #ShuterScoop that "If Andrew walks, he’ll feel vindicated and untouchable. That makes him more emboldened, more reckless, and far more dangerous to the institution.”
Another palace insider says "Prison contains the chaos. It forces a hard stop. The family can regroup without constantly bracing for the next humiliation.”
Adds a senior royal source, "No one wants to say it publicly. But Andrew will always embarrass them. He won’t change. Jail removes the oxygen — and the obligation to bankroll him."
Plus, the King (and Prince William) has been wanting to slim down the monarchy—and rumor has it he's even planning to remove other titles. Ultimately, Andrew's arrest "gives the King cover to finish the slimming-down he’s always wanted. In crisis, reform suddenly becomes very easy to sell."
