Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor spent his 66th birthday being arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office, and so far the royal family has remained silent except for a statement from King Charles himself. But behind the scenes, Andrew's daughters—Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice—are said to be reeling.
A source tells The Telegraph that "this is catastrophic for [Sarah Ferguson] and the girls. She seems to be doing her best to put a brave face on it. Her desperation for money was clear stupidity but does that equate to what she’s going through now?"
The Daily Mail, meanwhile, reports that a source says Eugenie and Beatrice are in "a state" over their father's arrest, especially since Prince William could kick them out of the royal fold at any moment. Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams recently told the outlet, "It may fall to William to make a decision on the future of Beatrice and Eugenie. Neither are reportedly particularly close to him or to Catherine."
He added that amid the strong possibility Andrew could be put on trial, "it may be impossible for the royal family to move forward with any members of the York family attached to it. William and Catherine do not appear to have close ties with the sisters and would probably not miss them."
