- Thousands of free condoms are given to athletes in the Olympic Village each year the games are held.
- The 2026 Winter Olympics are no different, as 10,000 condoms were reportedly given out in Milan’s village.
- According to an anonymous athlete, the village has already run out of condoms.
Every time the Olympic Games come around, athletes gather in the host country to compete in different sports, from figure skating to skiing. But, when they’re not training or competing, they spend a ton of their downtime at the Olympic Village. There are a bunch of cool amenities in the village each year (free glam stations! Foosball! Vending machines!), but the athletes are still keen on a good ’ol hookup—which is why the Games provide them with thousands of free condoms.
Ofc, this year is no different. According to TMZ, a little less than 10,000 condoms were dispersed at the Olympic Village in Milan, and an anonymous athlete revealed that they’re already all gone. They told Italian news outlet La Stampa that the condoms “were snatched up in just 72 hours.” Perhaps the elimination of those anti-sex beds (and the introduction of Heated Rivalry…) inspired a spike in this year’s hookups?
They added that the condom suppliers “promised us more will arrive, but who knows when.”
Last week, Canadian and Spanish ice dancer Olivia Smart made headlines when she posted a TikTok revealing where athletes could find free condoms at the 2026 Games. From the look of her video, it seemed like the supply had already been sufficiently raided so…guess it’s not a big surprise that they’re (reportedly) out of stock.
In 2018, Cosmopolitan tapped a bunch of Olympians for insider knowledge on the Olympic Village’s hookup culture. At the time, speedskater Joey Mantia said, “It’s a bunch of athletes, and they hand out a lot of condoms, so…you know, what are you gonna do?” Gus Kenworthy even spilled some gossip, dishing that some athletes lost their virginities in the village that year.
At the 2024 Paris Olympics, more than 300,000 condoms were provided for over 10,000 competitors, as the intimacy ban that was originally put in place for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics had been lifted.
Ofc, the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics are hosting fewer athletes than the Summer Games typically do, hence there not being as many rubbers. The more you know!
