Breezy Johnson just took home Team USA’s first gold medal at the 2026 Winter Olympics—but she’s winning in more ways than one. After competing in her final race on Thursday, February 12, the skier was met with a sweet proposal from her longtime boyfriend, Connor Watkins, at the finish line. Though Breezy couldn’t properly finish the women’s Super-G because of a crash, Connor surprised her when he popped the question. And, in a stunning twist of fate, her proposal actually included a major tie to Taylor Swift, too.
Swifties are no strangers to a good Easter egg, and, naturally, they caught on to the Taylor-coded detail in Breezy’s engagement. Lyrics from her Tortured Poets Department track, “The Alchemy”—which is widely believed to be inspired by Tay’s own romance with Travis Kelce—were etched into the wooden box holding Breezy’s sparkler: “Honestly, who are we to fight the alchemy?”
Connor, who had been with Breezy for nearly two-and-a-half years before his proposal, revealed to NBC that he had been planning out the romantic gesture for a year. “I was really hoping that I could get in the finish area and do it the way I wanted. And it turned out we could, and we’re just super excited,” he gushed, also explaining that the milestone moment had “gone above and beyond our wildest imagination.”
The athlete also admitted that she “may have told him that I just always kind of had the dream of getting engaged at the Olympics.”
“I mean, that was my hope!” Breezy told the outlet. “But it’s definitely a lot more crazy with everything just happening all at once, and the reality of it is so different than the way you imagined, and so much better.”
To make things even better: Tay slid into the comments section to congratulate Breezy, writing, “‘Where’s the trophy? He just comes running over to me’ CONGRATULATIONS!!!”
BTW, Taylor also sent a message to Team USA’s Olympians ahead of the Winter Games on Friday, February 6.
“I just wanted to say thank you,” Tay said in her message. “Getting to learn new stories and see everything you’ve sacrificed and all your determination, hard work, and passion—everything that has gotten you to this point where you’re so excellent at something—is just really inspiring.”
She added, “I’m very grateful for everything you’ve done to get to this point in your life and grateful that you’ve all brought us along with you on this journey so we get to watch you do this. I just hope you have a wonderful Olympic Games. Wishing you all the best of luck and a safe journey, and I hope this is an experience that you will cherish for the rest of your life.”
Something tells us this is a love story Taylor can get behind!
