Awards season is officially here, and the Golden Globes red carpet is absolutely packed with celebs tonight—including Maya Rudolph and her husband*, Paul Thomas Anderson.
In case you had no clue these two were together, they are! And they’re extremely cute and adorable and all the things! They’ve also been making the red carpet rounds in a big way this year thanks to PTA’s latest drama One Battle After Another, which has a stacked cast including Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, and Chase Infiniti and was nominated for SO MANY awards at the 2026 Golden Globes.
So basically, if you weren’t already an expert in all things PTA, there’s no time like now to learn everything about him (and his relationship with the comedic genius and living legend known as Maya Rudolph).
He’s Considered One of the Best Filmmakers in the World
Name a list, and he’s on it. The Guardian ranked PTA number one on its list of best directors in the world, and words like “master,” “brilliant,” and “wunderkind” are frequently used to describe him. Wow, same! (Not at all same.)
He’s Been Nominated for 11 (Eleven!) Academy Awards
*clears throat* PTA got a Best Original Screenplay nom for Boogie Nights and Magnolia and a gazillion nominations for There Will Be Blood, Inherent Vice, Phantom Thread, and Licorice Pizza. But he has yet to win—although this could be his year, whomst knows.
He Has Directed a Ton of Music Videos
Along with videos for the likes of Radiohead and Fiona Apple, Paul has directed NINE music videos for Haim. So yeah, makes sense that he cast Alana in his new movie—they go way back!
He and Maya Aren’t *Technically* Married
But they’ve been together forever (since 2001), they have four kids, and Maya calls Paul her husband. In a New York Times profile, she said she stopped referring to Paul as her “boyfriend” after they had kids and went with “husband” because “people know what that means. It means he’s the father of my child and I live with him and we are a couple and we are not going anywhere.”
Phantom Thread Was Kinda Inspired by Their Relationship
PTA confirmed this to Collider, saying, “I remember that I was very sick, just with the flu, and I looked up and my wife looked at me with tenderness that made me think, I wonder if she wants to keep me this way, maybe for a week or two. I was watching the wrong movies when I was in bed, during this illness. I was watching Rebecca, The Story of Adele H., and Beauty and the Beast, and I really started to think that maybe she was poisoning me. So that kernel of an idea, I had in my mind when I started working on writing something.”
Um, LOL.
They Are Super Private About Their Personal Life
They tend to keep details about their personal life strictly private, although here’s a cute interview of PTA talking about how hilarious Maya is with Andy Cohen:
And Maya also talked about how she keeps the spark alive, telling Us Weekly, “I think genuinely, like, the effort to make an effort. [That’s] the most romantic gesture. Like, to be present. To show up every day is kind of the most romantic part because you can bail at any moment.”
