• Grammy nominee Addison Rae has opened up about the success of her single, “Diet Pepsi,” and her self-titled debut album in a new interview with the Los Angeles Times.
  • The TikToker-turned-pop star referenced “weird” behavior in the industry before revealing someone she had previously worked with released a song that sounds like one of her own.
  • While she didn’t name names, fans are speculating that she could be referencing another pop artist on the rise: Tate McRae.

Addison Rae isn’t holding back. The newly-minted Grammy nominee sat down with the Los Angeles Times and got candid about her career trajectory (and, yes, even Charli xcx and Taylor Swift’s rumored feud).

The “High Fashion” hitmaker opened up about some “weird” instances she faced while working on her critically-acclaimed debut album, including a time where another artist worked with her and her producers—Elvira Anderfjärd and Luka Kloser—and seemingly copied their signature style on a separate song.

“There are people that do weird things, and I try to avoid those people,” Addison said, before explaining that some unseen drama goes down “behind the scenes.”

“Well, you know, this can be behind the scenes as well—producers and drama in writing and ideas and back-end conversations. On my record with Luka and Elvira, we had worked with someone—or tried to include them in something—and then we didn’t really feel like it was necessary. No bad blood,” she explained. “Then all of a sudden, this person had gone and worked with someone else, and things were sounding similar. The timeline of it all was very confusing and interesting.”

Addison didn’t get into exact details, but fans were quick to speculate that she may have been alluding to fellow pop girl, Tate McRae, as her So Close to What track “Purple Lace Bra” resembles the production on “Diet Pepsi,” which dropped six months earlier.

Others pointed out that Tate worked with producer Emile Hayne on her track. While fans claim that Addison had allegedly “fired” him after working together, there are no public details on whether he has collaborated with Addison before. But, he has worked with Lana Del Rey, who both Tate and Addison are influenced by. Iiinteresting.

This also isn’t the first time Addison has brought up the concept of remaking her hit, “Diet Pepsi.” During an interview with the New York Times Popcast in June 2025, she said, “We’re not going to make another ‘Diet Pepsi,’ and we don’t want to. Other people may try to make a ‘Diet Pepsi,’ and you know…all the power to them if it works.”

Tbh, the narrative of pitting women against each other—especially pop’s brightest stars—is incredibly tired. We probably won’t ever know if she was referencing Tate, but the good news? Things are cool between the girlies. In November, Tate dropped an Instagram Story wearing a pair of jeans from Addison’s collaboration with Lucky Jeans, writing, “I loveeee these jeans.”

It’s also important to note that when Addison shared the story with the Los Angeles Times, she refused to go into further detail as it’s “irrelevant” at this point.

When the interviewer suggested that they might find more info if they “dig around” the internet, Addison shut them down, saying, “You wouldn’t know. I mean, I think there are people that maybe would know things. But I’m not interested in getting into the nitty-gritty of it all. It’s so irrelevant.”

There ya have it!
