- Ariana Grande will miss the Wicked: For Good premiere in Brazil on Tuesday, November 4.
- After her flight was delayed, Ariana says she was unable to make alternative arrangements in time.
- Ariana asked fans not to “wish danger on us” as her co-stars are still set to attend.
Last year’s press tour for Wicked was arguably one of the best of the year. The outfits! The nails! The speculation about Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater’s relationship! A year later, another press tour is ready to commence, this time for Wicked: For Good. Unfortunately, it’s off to an unlucky start, as Ariana Grande will miss the Wicked: For Good premiere in Brazil on Tuesday, November 4—the first in the film’s international tour.
“Brazil, I can’t believe this is happening and I am beyond devastated to be sending this message,” Ariana wrote on an Instagram Story posted late Monday night. “A few hours ago, my team and I had to deplane our flight, as they had to do maintenance on the plane due to a safety issue and it will not be taking off until 11am tomorrow, which means that I would not be making it in time for the Wicked: For Good São Paulo premiere.”
Ariana continued, adding that her team and the film studio Universal had tried to book her a different flight, but to no avail. “We’ve searched every other flight, overnight, early morning, connecting flights, commercial, and also private options, and absolutely nothing was available or possible that would get us there in time,” she wrote.
It’s hard to believe that an international superstar can be thwarted by a flight delay, but I guess stars really are just like us. The “heartbroken” star concluded with an apology to her fans. “We sincerely tried everything we could and I apologize from the bottom of my heart,” she concluded. Seems reasonable to me!
But apparently, some fans weren’t thrilled with the idea of Glinda missing the premiere. In fact, it would seem that Ariana got so much hate for missing the premiere, she had to put out a follow-up statement 10 hours later.
“Please don’t wish danger on us,” she wrote in a second Instagram Story, much to our collective alarm. “We did everything we could and I promise you no one is more upset than I am, I promise.”
Again, Ariana emphasizes that she and her team did everything they could to get her to Brazil in time for the premiere, but it simply wasn’t possible. She also explained why she wasn’t able to fly in earlier, noting that these plans had been scheduled for months and that she just “wrapped another film on the 31st.” (The other film? Focker In-Law.)
Moreover, she wrote that she had been working non-stop for the past two days, and that she, Cynthia Erivo, and director Jon M. Chu were all scheduled to fly on the same day. “It just so happened that this plane had a safety problem,” she explained.
Once again, Ariana signed off with a message to her fans in Brazil, writing, “I love Brazil, I always have, I always will,” and wishing her co-stars well. “Please go and have a beautiful time celebrating these absolutely brilliant and magnificent human beings and performances tonight. I am with you in spirit!”
The premiere might be missing Glinda, but rest assured that Cynthia, Jon, and newly crowned Sexiest Man Alive Jonathan Bailey are still set to attend the Brazil premiere. And hopefully other fans will have better luck seeing Ariana at the Wicked: For Good premieres in Paris (November 7), London (November 10), Singapore (November 13), and New York (November 17).
