- Queen Camilla was unexpectedly absent from the Duchess of Kent's high-profile royal funeral.
- The palace released a statement revealing that Camilla is recovering from an illness.
- A source denies that Her Majesty is trying to get out of participating in President Trump's upcoming state visit.
The royals just attended the funeral of the Duchess of Kent, and—despite being expected at the high-profile service—Queen Camilla was surprisingly absent.
The palace released an explanation for Her Majesty not being there, saying, "With great regret, Her Majesty The Queen has withdrawn from attendance at this afternoon’s Requiem Mass for The Duchess of Kent as she is recovering from acute sinusitis. Her thoughts and prayers will be with The Duke of Kent and all the family."
However, there's speculation that Queen Camilla is soft launching the cancelation of more events later this week, including President Trump's upcoming state visit. Though, the palace specifically added that she "hopes to have recovered sufficiently to attend all elements of the State Visit and this week’s other engagements in what is scheduled to be a very busy program."
In response to speculation that Camilla is trying to avoid the visit—which will see President Trump and first lady Melania Trump spend 24 hours as guests of the royal family at their home in Windsor Castle—a friend of Her Majesty's told the Daily Beast, "There is no way she would shirk her duty. She knows how important this is to the government and her husband. Her job is supporting him."
Unclear if Queen Camilla will end up up making an appearance, but stay tuned.
