Sad news for everyone hoping to see Taylor Swift's engagement ring make its debut on a red carpet: she won't be at the 2025 Video Music Awards this weekend.
The newly engaged singer is nominated for Artist of the Year alongside Bad Bunny, Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, Lady Gaga, Morgan Wallen, and The Weeknd, but E! News reports that she's "opting to skip" the event.
Why, you ask? Just speculating here, but it could have something to do with the fact that Travis Kelce and the Chiefs are playing the first game of the season tonight (September 5) against the Los Angeles Chargers in Brazil. There's no guarantee that Taylor is supporting Travis at the game (she usually prefers home games at Arrowhead stadium for security reasons), but if she is along for the trip, flying back to the United States in time for the VMAs on Sunday night could be tricky.
However! If Taylor Swift wins Artist of the Year, she'll be making history as the most decorated artist of alllll time with 31 awards (she and Beyoncé are currently tied with 30 awards each).
Assuming this intel about Tay skipping the VMAs is correct, this will be her first time missing the annual awards show since 2021. Hopefully we'll see her back next year (when The Life of a Showgirl will presumably sweep)!
