Today in "take this with a grain of salt" news, there are reports out of the U.K. that Sydney Sweeney has been tapped as the newest "Bond Girl" by director Denis Villeneuve. The evidence? According to The Sun, Sydney is friends with Denis and has the backing of Jeff Bezos (reminder: Amazon has taken over the Bond franchise). This also could explain why Sydney was somewhat randomly at Bezos' wedding in Italy a few weeks ago, but just speculating here!
"Sydney is the top name on the casting sheet for Bond," a source tells The Sun. "Denis believes she is hugely talented, as well as having an alluring appeal to younger generations, vital in modernizing the franchise. They’ve hung out together a lot and he has admired her stratospheric rise. Plus Sydney has the quality of being athletic and able to perform physical scenes, as well as being feminine and following in the legacy of Bond girls."
As for who is playing Bond himself, the verdict is still out—but Aaron Taylor-Johnson appears to be a leading favorite, while Idris Elba, Jonathan Bailey, Regé-Jean Page, Tom Hardy, and James Norton's names have also been floating around for a couple years. Circling back to Aaron real quick before we go, back in 2022 a source revealed to The Sun that he'd actually already screen tested for the role, saying "Aaron went for a screen test to be the next Bond in September and producers and Barbara loved him. He is now one of the front-runners."
Of course a lot has changed since then—including Bond's pivot to Amazon—so guess we'll see what happens!
