It’s already been two years since Miley Cyrus released her mega Grammy-winning hit, “Flowers,” and as she gears up for the release of her ninth album, Something Beautiful, on May 30, she’s dropping a bit of lore from her iconic Endless Summer Vacation music video shoot.
At the time, fans heavily speculated that the breakup anthem reflected her on-again, off-again relationship with Liam Hemsworth and even theorized that a specific detail in the track’s music video had ties to his The Hunger Games costar, Jennifer Lawrence.
The detail in question happens to be the metallic gold Yves Saint Laurent cutout gown Miley donned from the fashion house’s fall 1991 collection, as it slightly resembles the Prabal Gurung number J.Law wore during The Hunger Games’ L.A. premiere in March 2012.
The “More to Lose” singer recently weighed in on fans’ theory that her outfit choice was inspired by Jennifer as she signed autographs before her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
“Miley, was your ‘Flowers’ dress a reference to Jennifer Lawrence?” one fan asked, to which she replied, “No, but I love that dress of hers.”
ICYMI, Jennifer and Miley’s ex, Liam, faced romance rumors as they filmed The Hunger Games trilogy, which seemed to die down when he married Miley in 2018. Once she released “Flowers” and wore her golden gown, the speculation resurfaced.
J.Law put the rumors to rest when asked about Miley’s video during a 2023 appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.
“There’s a lot of talk that the music video was referencing a secret fling that you had with Liam Hemsworth while he was with Miley Cyrus. Can you please respond to this?” Andy asked, per Us Weekly.
“Not true,” she said. “I would love to. It’s not true. Total rumor.”
She continued, “I mean, we all know that me and Liam, like, kissed one time. But it was years after they broke up. So I just assume that was, like, a coincidence.”
And a coincidence it was—glad to see these golden girls supporting each other!
