At this point, you’ve probably seen footage of Colman Domingo telling the story of how he met his husband (if not, please hold), and we need to know more. Like, everything. So on that note, meet Raúl Domingo, who has been by Colman’s side for 20 years and, by all accounts, seems—to paraphrase Lady Gaga—talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, and showstopping.
Colman's Husband Raúl a Successful Producer
Raúl has been working as a writer and producer for years and partnered with Colman on the short film New Moon back in 2022.
The pair also made Netflix’s It’s What’s Inside, which was produced by their company Edith Productions. Colman told Netflix (watch below for a cute vid), “We started Edith Productions about five years ago, at the beginning of the pandemic, to create the work we want to see in the world,” while Raúl added that they want to “entertain you while gutting you.”
FYI, Raúl was a producer on Sing Sing—Colman’s recent film which was nominated for multiple Academy Awards. And yes, they attended the Oscars together:
He’s an Oil Painter
According to his bio on Edith Productions, Raúl “is also an accomplished artist specializing in oils” and spends a lot of time in studio.
Meanwhile, I can barely draw a stick figure, but MOVING ON!
He’s Super Private
Raúl isn’t active on social media and largely stays out of the spotlight, but he has accompanied Colman to the occasional event over the years.
Colman and Raúl Met Thanks to a Missed Connection
Get ready for what has to be the best meet-cute ever: Colman and Raúl saw each other outside a pharmacy and the moment was so powerful that Colman considered an ad in Missed Connections. Raúl beat him to the punch, though, writing an ad that read, “I saw you outside of Walgreens in Berkeley…,” and Colman wrote him back with “To the sweet angel with the most arresting eyes…” The rest is history! Oh, except also: After their first date, Colman turned to Raúl and whispered “I think I love you” while he was sleeping.
Gonna literally cry already, but in case you need more, Colman also spoke about the moment on The Late Show. Ahem: “Okay, you gotta picture 17 years ago, I was walking down the street going into a Walgreens in Berkeley, California. We passed each other. We never spoke....A few days later, I’m on Craigslist trying to buy a used computer to help with my writing. I went to the home screen and you know, they have Missed Connections, things like ads, so I would read them because I’m a romantic. I go to the second page of Missed Connections and it said, ‘Saw you outside of Walgreens, Berkeley.’”
They Had a Surprise House Party Wedding
According to GQ, Colman and Raúl married in 2014—nine years after they met—during a “small, casual ceremony disguised as a house party.” Just 25 people attended and everyone danced until 4:00 a.m.
Obsessed with these two! And now so are you.
